One of the wild insect Guardians of the herb garden is the Praying Mantis. There were 5 of them on one Lavender plant probably praying for an insect to land. Nice to have help that's organically inclined.

Our first large harvest of Echinacea root from the new garden in Surprise Valley at the Herb Shop just happened. We are delighted to have the soil and water to produce fine medicine both in the valley and in the mountains. A special thanks to our local friends who showed up to help process and chop! This root harvest was very potent and it numbed the tongue incredibly well. Tongue numbing is one way to test the strength of Echinacea. Once again we are grateful to the Plants at this time when their medicinal qualities are so in demand and necessary!

In February I do so miss the green and growing things! Time to at least look through my flower photos.This is Nettle Leaf Horse Mint, one our tastiest local medicine plants. Remember this plant when hiking the higher elevations with stomach trouble. A tea is ever so soothing and a few leaves or a flower head in your water bottle sure perks things up. You can easily recognize the square stem, minty fragrance and abundance of pollinators.
