Did You Know Safety thoughts and knowledge goes hand in hand with Hand Tools to? So often we run to the garage at home and grab a hammer, screwdriver or a saw, knowing you’ll only use it once or for a very short time, and that of course is when we injure ourselves. ... This quick review is short and to the point. Safety is first always, even when we are at home with a Screwdriver. Safety glasses and gloves are still needed. Always wear safety glasses and proper hand protection Never carry a tool by the cord or in the case when it’s not properly closed Never yank the cord from the outlet Keep your cords away from heat, oil and sharp objects Avoid placing your finger on the trigger when carrying the tool Tools should be maintained and fixed or replaced when needed Disconnect tools when not in use Review your work space before you engage with a tool, such as good footing and maintaining good balance Always alert people in the area before you start These simple home issues are the same issues at work, because injury has no knowledge or care as to where its at. Almost every employee uses some type of tool during the day to accomplish tasks. Whether it’s a Screwdriver or a Roto-Hammer, your role as a supervisor is to ensure, that the tools used for each job are the rights tools for that job and they need to be in proper working order and good working condition. Short and sweet, but safety always is, we just have to keep thinking about it.

Did You Know Operating a forklift around co-workers or pedestrians falls on you. Well you at least should know it mostly falls on you. Every precaution must be taken to prevent injury to anyone walking within your area of operation. In operation of that forklift you should walk the planned route before you start and observe the potential concerns that could become dangerous to co-worker’s and pedestrians. Stay focused and follow these tips as well:... Travel at a safe speed this is not time to show off your skills Keep a clear view and focus on your path of travel Watch around corners and blind spots Stop and get off the equipment, if you are not comfortable with your view Use the horn to alert others - Use a co-worker to walk the path with you if you can Avoid distractions such as wearing headphones, looking at your cell phone, etc. Always yield the right of way to the pedestrian safety first Of course, you the pedestrian has some Reasonability’s here too: Listen for horns: Remain at a safe distance and let the drive know where you are: Avoid distraction when nearing the work area: such as looking at your phone while walking When possible, make eye contact with the operator: Using your commonsense and awareness skills, is the best way to keep the operator and the pedestrian safe and working together as a team.
