Told you to get this wine. We still have some on the website! @wine1percent Well, first of all I opened the wrong Nabor. I totally thought I grabbed the cheaper NSO Syrah and brought it up and opened it, poured and started gushing to my girlfriend how ridiculous it was for a $20 wine and how crazy raw and aggressive and ageable it was for that price, then went back for a re-fill and there’s a dude in a hat staring at me. Oops. So anyway instead of the $20 Syrah review I *t...hought* you were getting, it’s actually the $40 one. But I’m not complaining. Not in the least. The amount of edge this wine shows in the nose is astounding. The cherry is pure, extravagantly simple yet so focused on the typicity prize it wanders neither here nor there on the path. Green stemmy briar eviscerates the fruit, calmed only by sweet spice and a touch of gorgeous oak. Barley malt and black walnut, butter and bitters, berry and soilall work toward the goal of making this a serious contender in California’s new wine movement away from limp, over-concentrated, over-macerated, forgotten-in-barrel, hi-octane versions dotting influencer’s & wine-guy’s feeds in their characteristic feeding of America’s sweet tooth and bigger-is-better mentality. In the mouth, there’s a raw, almost clunky ball-drop of rash fruit almost smacking of home-wine or green-winea characteristic formerly frowned upon, but as the aforementioned new-Rhone movement takes grip, has nearly enveloped the rank of offerings from Sonoma and Central Coast. The delicacy on the tongue defies your semi-truck expectations, and instead of punching you in the face with fruit density and teeth-flossing concentration, makes the hair on your neck stand up with pure life, delicious acid, and rife, cooling rose-hips, the darkest berry you can cram into a transparent package, and raspy polished vegetal unable to pause its attack on your mouth. How bright can a wine be? How absolutely delicious can it be while maintaining religious levels of acid and tannin? Well, if you’re the 99, you call it harsh and bitter. Un-smooth. If you’re the 1%, you call it magnificent. A tour-de-force. Stunning. Provocative and able to stand tall with true Northern-Rhone examples from California. And the effect age will have on a wine like this can NOT be under-estimated. Buy a case and drink one a year. Buy TWO cases and drink one a year. You’ll thank me. 2018 DUSTY NABOR Syrah Kimsey Vyd Ballard Cyn Santa Barbara Co. 14.0

Releasing 12/17 to Mailing List members. 2018 Kimsey Vineyard Syrah. This is our second vintage of Syrah from this "Cru" vineyard in the south corner of the Ballard Canyon AVA. As with our 2017 vintage, this is a 50/50 blend of Block 9 (Alban Clone) and Block 7 (Massal selection of clones). This vintage does differ from 2017 in that it was completely destemmed, we used no new oak and we did not co-ferment with Viognier. We did still blend the final wine with just 2% of Viogni...er to add a floral note to the nose. This is a classic expression of a cooler climate Syrah. Yes, the south end of Ballard Canyon has so much influence from the Sta Rita Hills corridor that I often consider it more of a cooler climate part of the AVA. It starts with a note of flinty reduction that we strive for in our winemaking. Then leads into purple and white flowers, vanilla candle and sweet tobacco along with classic Syrah notes of winter blueberries, red meat, and spice. Silky, ripe tannins with bright acidity flow into a long, beautiful finish. This is a Syrah specific to its region, and built to last for years to come. See more

Holiday gifts going out.

Next month we will be releasing our 2018 Kimsey Vineyard Syrah. A simple blend of 50/50 Block 9 Alban clone and Block 7 Massal selection with a 2% Viognier addition from neighboring J&K Vineyard. The images in this post are all from 2018 as it’s fun to look back at some of the challenges and circumstances that went into the vintage. One being the incredibly destructive Woolsey Fire. I feel that wine is a reflection of the people and places that shaped and created it. It’s what sets wine apart from all other beverages. These bottles are living time capsules. We’ll get into more specifics about the wine as we approach to release. Needless to say, it turned out wonderfully.

Short video of the winery as harvest begins to slow down after a very long week. All fruit is in and many of the wines are making their way to the vessels they’ll live in for the coming months and even years. I’m happy to report that this has been one of our best vintages. All the wines are wonderful at this point. We enjoyed a vast amount of luck this year missing the fires and having the vines do so well with the crazy heat spikes. However, these issues are not going away. We, all of us, need to recognize that we can’t continue to deal with them by being lucky. Real change is needed. We must work together.

Are you ready!? 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Black Label coming to the mailing list on October 15th! 3 years almost to the day! 18 months in barrel and 18 months in bottle means this wine will hit your hands ready to go. We are so excited to bring this to you after such a long wait. Keep an eye out for the release email. @jebdunnuck Its dense purple/plum color gives way to a full-bodied, ripe, spicy wine offering lots of cassis, leafy herbs, cedarwood, and flowery incens...e aromas and flavors. Nicely textured and balanced, with ripe tannins, it's another impressive wine from Nabor. @wine1percent Shocking mint and toasted briar pour out of the glass, smoky charred fruit, crisp and carmelized, thick cherry reduced and liqueured, kept out of the pruney depths with copious cut green grass and perfect layers of bell pepper and eucalyptus. It is a heady, conspicuous nose, tarry fruit packed in denselyand well-coated with that Paso Robles sunny glow. See more

Brought in a couple tons of Kimsey Vineyard Block 7 Massal selection Syrah today from Ballard Canyon. Whole cluster straight into the tank. Little foot tread, drain off some saignée for Pet-Nat Rosé and that’s it. Should start fermenting in a few days. About halfway through harvest now.

More preparations in the cellar. We have a couple small lots of Petite Verdot and Malbec coming in that are a little small for our tanks. We much prefer to use 500L Puncheons for fermenting rather than the 1/2 ton pick bins. The thermodynamics are much better in a barrel and a little early oak integration can really help balancing that flavor/aroma in the final wine. Plus, pretending to be a cooper is kinda fun.

Captured this during our first morning of harvest. This is Bloodlines Vineyard just outside the Sta Rita Hills AVA by Lompoc. We were harvesting Chardonnay for a sparkling project. This image perfectly captures harvest from the perspective of a winemaker. We’re often present during picks and this is usually exactly what we see. Dark rows, illuminated in the distance with pickers working quickly but smoothly. Keenly conscious of how important their role is. It’s a symphony when it’s done with passion. This wine is now fermenting away in the cellar.
