What's the deal with masks? Here's another great post from Erin Bromage, PhD. "Masks are part of the solution to reduce the release of infectious virus into the environment, but they are not 100% effective. Social distancing works when outdoors and in brief indoor encounters, but distance alone, while indoors, does not protect you from infection. ... Face mask use is a social contract. My mask protects you; your mask protects me. But face masks are not perfect and they need to be used in conjunction with other measures to lower risk of infection such as physical distancing and hand washing. There is ample evidence to suggest that widespread use of masks results in significant reductions in the transmission of respiratory viruses. Mask use is grounded in biology and can have a real world and meaningful effect on slowing the spread of infection, protecting your coworkers, and those vulnerable members in your community. The role of Vitamin D in Covid-19 mortality and severity of illness is a question that needs to be answered. What is clear is that having a healthy Vitamin D level is important. What is yours? How are you getting your D? "This is exactly where Backman believes vitamin D plays a major role. Not only does vitamin D enhance our innate immune systems, it also prevents our immune systems from becoming dangerously overactive. This means that having healthy levels of vitamin D co...uld protect patients against severe complications, including death, from COVID-19." Backman is careful to note that people should not take excessive doses of vitamin D, which might come with negative side effects. He said the subject needs much more research to know how vitamin D could be used most effectively to protect against COVID-19 complications." https://www.sciencedaily.com/releas/2020//200507121353.htm
