Unclear how this study was published, as it mostly consisted of 3 males making fake accounts and trolling the accounts of young female surgeons. Nonetheless, as if the road to medicine was not already paved with misogyny and malignant culture, with an already added layer of stress, particularly, to residency applicants about the negative ramifications of their social media use, we are telling doctors they can’t even be humans outside of the hospitals. I want to take it a step further though, as a black woman, I am already worried about: My language (code switching) My tone My hair How I come off to others... Being professional is an entirely different box I have to work hard to fit into...A box constructed by the majority, white men. But in addition, now I should worry about topics I discuss all the time on my page, like political and social issues. I’m sorry but abortions, gun violence, and racism in America, are very real issues that affect me and my patients and I will not be silenced!
