I just found out last night that a friend I was close to during med school, who I had lost touch with, passed on Mon. She posted these words mere days before leaving her physical embodiment and I think when you’re that close to death, you receive a clarity and a wisdom directly from the Cosmos and angels that we as mere mortals, living in these bodies and in this material plane, cannot always fully grasp. Sometimes we get caught up in this world, our worries, our pain, our in...securities and forget what our soul already knows. The message is simple really. We complicate things but in the end, the Truth is all very simple. ........... Love. Just love each other. It doesn’t have to be so difficult. Let your heart receive every smile. . It is NOT a question of worthiness, Let the shit go...let the Golden leaves of season past fall to the earth where they will nourish the next generation, season or cycle. . This doesn’t have to be hard but does require surrender. It requires courage and willingness. But you can do anything if you choose. . Choose. LOVE over fear EVERY SINGLE TIME : @eslee See more

Blue zones are regions of the world where people live longer healthier lives. Although very different in culture and geography, these zones share many commonalities that contribute to their longevity. . We all know somewhat intuitively what healthy and clean eating look like. At the very least, we know fresh whole foods are optimal. But what you may not know is that one aspect of living a longer and healthier life is eating regularly in community. I’m single and live alone so... basically I’m dying tomorrow. Kidding! It just means I need to make more of an effort to create community for myself especially around meals. It’s not only important WHAT we eat but HOW we eat. . In a perfect world, every meal would be leisurely and shared with friends and laughter. But I live in reality so if that’s not possible, at least aim not to eat while working, stressing, driving, moving. Eat with intention and gratitude and watch what happens! : eggplant_diary See more

I was at the Hollywood Lake Park at sunset 2 days ago and got a whopping 21 (yes 21! ) mosquito bites THROUGH my clothes! And they’re so itchy. It’s summer and the mosquitos are officially out to feast. Some things I’ve been doing (and plan to try) to quell the inflammation and itch include: . - Tepid oatmeal bath (hot water can exacerbate the itchiness): sprinkle oatmeal in the bath water or place in a nut milk bag or wrap in cheesecloth and let the milky goodness deep into... your bath - chamomile flowers or tea: add to the above oatmeal bath or apply chilled tea bags to bites - fresh aloe or as close to 100% aloe gel you can find (all processed aloe gels will have some fillers btw) - witch hazel - apple cider vinegar (the cure all for everything) - homeopathic Apis - basil infusion - diluted essential oils applied topically: 1 or a blend of lavender, eucalyptus, peppermint, tea tree and/or rosemary - ice to cool and numb . What do you do for itchy bug bites. Help! See more

We all know meditation is good for us. Probably one of the best therapies for our nervous system, overall health, ability to manifest the life we desire and so much more. But some of us aren’t quite there yet with implementing traditional versions of the practice (silent, TM, Vedic, etc.) on a daily or consistent basis. If you struggle, there are other ways we can implement meditation to ground ourselves. . I was a Photo major in undergrad (along w/ Pre-med) back in the day w...hen photography only meant film (I’m old). And I recall spending hours in the darkroom immersed in full creativity and pure enjoyment where hours would go by. This is a form of meditation too. . When I was little my grandma used to teach me origami and years ago, my mom and I spent hours together making these origami balls that could be strung together on twinkly lights. (Such a great activity for kids and cute decor for a kid or baby’s room btw) The repetitive act and producing something was also a meditation. And a way for my mom and I to connect in our creativity. . Unique forms of meditation include: 1. Walking meditation w/ mindfulness 2. Origami 3. Qi gong/Taichi/Kundalini 4. Knitting 5. Coloring 6. Journaling or Automatic Writing 7. Self massage body or face 8. Chanting 9. Singing 10. Cooking (eg. making dumplings like like whenever there’s a scene with an Asian family in a film, chopping veggies, baking bread) . What are some different ways you meditate? See more

Whether it be our symptoms, our paychecks, how many calories we burn or how quickly our wounds heal, we are each on our own trajectory. If you live in LA, it’s like sitting on the 101 looking at the traffic on the 405. It’s a useless act. We all KNOW comparison gets us nowhere. I know you know. And yet we all forget. So for today, here’s a reminder.

The health of our bodies is intertwined with the health of our planet. Watch our new video (link in profile) on EASY EASY ways to incorporate #zerowaste or #lesswaste practices that when added all together can do so much for the planet and in turn, our own physiology. . Patients love to ask me how long do you think it will take until my symptoms are better? And the answer is, it all depends on what you do consistently and cumulatively. Same with less waste living. . What are some practices you’ve incorporated into your day to day life that have really stuck?

Discipline and consistency are not my strong suits. Truthfully I don’t think I’ve ever done anything for 21 days straight (besides eat and sleep) and on June 1, I embarked on a journey of #21daysofrest. Well let me tell you, I may have set out on June 1 but I didn’t even actually take off until June 5. Every step of this 21 day journey has been about releasing perfection and just moving forward. There were days I laid on dirty carpet with legs up a wall, days where I used old... hideous beach towels as my bolster, days where I didn’t even rest at all and watched Netflix instead...through it all, I have had to let go of what I wanted it all to *look* like. I’ve had to lay on the ugly beach towel, let go of not doing it perfectly, let go of how it looks and and just melt into the rest. And in the end, it always feels glorious and restorative. Every. Single. Time. It truly isn’t about perfection. Would I like to experience what 21 consecutive days of a healthy habit feels like? Yes. But the lesson and the message here is about something bigger. I plan to continue my days of rest beyond this 21 day imperfectly perfect journey. Let’s see where the acceptance, the stillness and the healing takes us. : @kon_tam See more

New plant baby. If you’re feeling caught up in the rush and responsibilities of life and have lost touch with the extraordinary, pause for a second to ponder this. We breathe out carbon dioxide, which is a poison to us. Plants then are nourished by that poison and transform it into life giving oxygen for us. And this happens all around us all day long. The weeds in the sidewalk to ancient forests to manicured suburban lawns to plant babies in our homes, we are all constantly ...interacting together in synergy. Regardless of whether you think it comes from the divine or quantum physics, you cannot deny that it is extraordinary and that there is a natural order. The same holds true for our bodies and physiology. This is where Naturopathic medicine veers away from conventional medicine. It’s not about using herbs over pharmaceutical drugs. It is about witnessing, understanding and moving in synergy with the natural order of healing. How extraordinary. See more

It’s a new day and a whole new month. A good time to reset, refill and restart. Instead of setting 10 different intentions for June, I am choosing to put my energy into just one. REST. With the help of @thedailyrest, I am giving myself the gift of conscious rest time (just a few minutes a day, nothing crazy), but DAILY for the next 21 days. . Our minds and bodies can only be truly healthy when we mimic Nature. The world, including technology, has evolved at such a rapid pace... and in a distorted way over the last few decades that our bodies have not been able to keep up and there is a huge discrepancy leading to deeper chronic illness and true burnout. Our bodies can’t evolve at the pace the world has. Things have changed more quickly than they ever have in decades past. So for these next 21 days, why don’t you join me and @thedailyrest to give yourself the the simplest yet most powerful gift of rest. via @thevartist of #mixes vanderrohe See more

Happy Friday! I’m always mixing it up but here’s a tonic recipe for you that I’ve been enjoying lately to help carry you into the weekend: . - coconut milk (or homemade cashew or non dairy milk or @malkorganics almond milk) gently warmed but not boiling - 1 scoop @designsforhealth chocolate flavored hydrolyzed beef protein powder (Trust me, it tastes better than it sounds. Hydrolyzed just means it’s more bioavailable, it’s not like chocolate flavored beef). Feel free to omit ...or sub plant protein of choice. - 1 tsp @ommushrooms cordyceps for energy, immunity and adrenals - 1 tsp ashwaganda for supporting the adrenals and nervous system - 1/2-1 tsp ginger for warming and supporting digestion - 1/2-1 tsp organic turmeric for anti inflammatory properties - 1-2 tsp organic raw cacao for antioxidants and the real deal chocolate flavor - 1 tsp organic Ceylon cinnamon for warming and balancing blood sugar - pinch of black pepper and Himalayan sea salt to better absorb that curcumin in the turmeric powder and salt to enhance flavors - a scoop of fat to feel satisfied and to keep that blood sugar even steven for hours (coconut butter, @adaptedfats coconut oil/ghee packet or cacao butter) - for added sweetness, depending on what your body tolerates, toss in a date, a spoonful of raw organic local honey or a few drops of @sweetleafstevia (my favorites are the hazelnut and vanilla flavors) . Blend and enjoy! See more

Gone are the days of wanting designer shoes, bags and clothes (ok well not *totally* gone) to treat myself. Now I dream of things like water filters, air filters, daily massages and giant bathtubs. This is who I am now. FINALLY invested in my own @berkey_filters (including the fluoride filters) and couldn’t be more thrilled. There are several great comparable water filters out there including my other favorite option of @mountainvalleywater home delivery. How do you filter your drinking water? Also for those of you with a Berkey, did you go through the process of using the (awful) red dye to test yours out after priming and assembly? And any tips on how much and how often to fill the top tank?

Things I’m grateful for today: - 32 min left on a meter - dropping a glass bottle full of jojoba oil on hard bathroom tile and it not breaking - my body’s pain & discomfort as a way of communicating with me asking me to listen and make changes... - putting off washing my car and then it sprinkling - internet going out and thinking I have to add yet *another* thing to my to do list but then finding out it’s out in the whole hood which means I get a digital break or I don’t have to do anything at all and it’ll get fixed - quiet smiles from strangers - a car letting me into their lane - Olive’s eyes getting as big as saucers because she’s excited about something (usually something pretty simple like a ball or food) - a patient running 10 min late allowing me to take a breath . Happy Friday See more

Happy birthday to this Aries muppet. Double digits today. Couldn’t love her more. Multiple intuitives have confirmed that my guardian angel grandmother sent her to me. I believe in my heart that she came to show me what self worth and self confidence looks like. If she hears the word Cute, she looks up thinking it’s about her. But she also doesn’t take it personally if someone isn’t into her. (Something this Pisces is continually working on). She gives so much joy to the world and has no issues or guilt around receiving. She is giving and compassionate but knows when she’s tired and has no hesitation about stopping to rest whenever she needs. She knows how to play and does it everyday. I have a lot to learn from this one. Thanks Grandma!

When life gives you lemons... You drink warm lemon water every morning. You make a delicious pesto for dipping and topping and slathering and add in a healthy squirt of lemon juice. You use the zest to add a little zest to your food AND life. You deodorize your garbage disposal.... You use the powerful limonoid and vit C to strengthen your immune system and fight off everything from a cold to cancer. You use its oils to clean and brighten your countertops AND mood. You use it not only to cut grease in your food but also in your liver to cleanse the liver, kidney and blood. You use it for cooling the body, harmonizing your digestion and replenishing fluids. Thankful for generous and multi tasking gifts from friends {@rainajlee} and of course, Mother Nature. Happy Monday! See more
