Arie received her Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science in 2011, her second Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing in 2014, and has recently received her Masters of Science in Nursing as an Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner. She is originally from Marietta, Georgia and moved to Los Angeles in 2017 with great plans to expand h...er career and love for nursing. Arie originally started her nursing career in Cardio-Thoracic surgery and worked in multiple other specialties until she found her true love and passion for aesthetic medicine. Today, our country swore in our first female African American/Southeast Asian Vice President of the United States. This is a momentous event not only for our country but also a personal one for me as a female plastic surgeon. I hope that this historic step we took today is a testament for every young woman that we can achieve anything with hard work and determination. As we near the end of #breastcancerawarenessmonth we are featuring a great survival story. This incredible mom of 5 came to us back in 2018 after having been diagnosed with breast cancer looking to learn all her options for breast reconstruction. Now, 2 years later, she has completed her breast reconstruction journey, is cancer free and feeling strong and confident! She started off with a bilateral mastectomy with placement of tissue expanders and alloderm. After being expan...ded for a few months, she underwent radiation, at the end of which, her skin was not in optimal shape to have an implant placed alone, which can be a common complication from radiation treatment. She was then scheduled for a hybrid DIEP flap, meaning she had reconstruction with not only silicone implants but also with her own tissue. Dr. Goldberg took tissue from her abdomen and reconstructed both her breasts in order to remove the damaged radiated skin and leave her breasts soft as if she had never had any work done. She just recently had her final stage of reconstruction with fat grafting to her breasts to even out as well as nipple reconstruction. We are grateful she allowed us to share her story so that any other woman going through this or just beginning their reconstruction process, can see the end result and know that natural looking breasts are achievable at the end of it all. Here at Goldberg Plastic Surgery, Dr. Goldberg is one of very few microsurgeons who is able to utilize the autologous tissue reconstruction method.
