FINAL UPDATE: Great news! We cleared the FDA hurdle this morning and the ElastiShield is now an FDA registered device! This allows us to sell directly into h...ospitals and medical environments. We are grateful for our friends at Sanford Health, Oriel STAT A MATRIX, and YPO (and many others) who reached out who stepped up to help us navigate the process over the last few days. Manufacturing begins tonight. Our high-speed tooling will arrive by special delivery close to midnight. We will have a team standing by to receive it and immediately get it into production. Raw materials are beginning to flow in by the truckload and will continue to do so over the coming weeks. While we waited for tooling and raw materials, our team made 1,200 masks yesterday on our rapid prototyping equipment. These are currently being delivered to local essential services or sent out as samples to hospitals across the country . We won't have a clear picture of how many or how quickly we can manufacture until we run for a couple days. Naturally, there has been a lot of interest and we want to help wherever we can. This will by my last update to this thread, but we will continue to post on Facebook and LinkedIn as we make progress. UPDATE: THANK YOU!! We appreciate the help sharing and the outpouring of contacts. I haven’t had the chance to respond to everyone yet individually, but we’ve read every comment and have been following up on your suggestions. As a result of your help, I have spoken with Congressman Hagedorn, Senator Amy Klobuchar’s office, State Senator Rod Hamilton, several hospitals, and others out on the frontlines. We also received a lot of valuable feedback from medical professionals that we can be most useful by making face shields (the clear plastic splash guard). We will focus our attention there. We also got some in-use evaluation and made design changes to improve the angle and fit of the shield. It’s not a perfect product, but we want to get something into the hands of those who need it and we can perfect it later. We have been making shields all day in our rapid prototyping lab and will be ready to scale next week. Hoping to be making 25-50k per day by end of next week. Our reach goal is 100-150k per day in the next couple weeks. There are always bugs getting production started, but we have the best team in the world! ORIGINAL POST: I am incredibly proud of our Production, R&D, and Design teams at Bedford today. Yesterday, we watched a news clip of hospital employees tediously constructing face masks and face shields out of office supplies to make covers for their N95 respirators. Bedford has long made the nose wire for medical #facemasks, so we gathered a team right way to see if we could invent a production-ready face mask by the end of the day. And we did!! I am happy to show you our prototype face mask cover and face shield. The face mask cover is intended as a disposable physical barrier to go over an N95 mask to allow for its reuse. It is not intended to be a surgical face mask (at this point). The shield serves the same purpose, but can be cleaned and reused. Yes, we did this ALL YESTERDAY. We can make tens of thousands per day, perhaps many more. We now need the power of social media. Since medical devices are regulated, I’m trying to reach the appropriate contacts with the FDA to offer our capabilities and begin supplying our medical community. They have not responded to my emails to their shortage mitigation email address. Can you help us get this done?
