It always helpful to have a good assistant. It’s even better when there’s half a dozen or more assistants!

It’s important that everyone stay safe and healthy during these difficult times in California. Here is an article discussing animals and the affects smoke can have on their health. https://www.avma.org//emergenc/wildfire-smoke-and-animals

Today while pregnancy checking my 55th cow of the day, in a well maintained chute, my 56th cow decided it was her turn in the chute. After ramming the preg checking gate into my back, she immediately pinned me between herself and my 55th cow within the metal chute. In just a few seconds I was stuck between 2 1200# cows with no way out. Due to the quick actions of my husband and the other guys working the chute the problematic cow was moved out and I was able to get out of... the chute sustaining minimal injuries. It could have been so much worse. I’m thankful to be alive and not severely injured. Some of my colleagues have not been so fortunate over the last couple of weeks. As large animal veterinarians we love our jobs and working with big animals, but our safety is extremely important as things can go sideways in a blink of an eye. Please protect your veterinarian with safe and proper restrain techniques and equipment. Your veterinarian’s life could be a stake.

Miss Piggy needs a new home. She is a great girl! She typically needs her toes trimmed twice a year, but is otherwise very healthy.

What do you do with a 4 day old cria who’s temperature doesn’t register on a thermometer? You initiate thermal support in the front seat of the vet vehicle with the thermostat set as high as it will go and the seat heater going as well. I’m cooking, but he’s warming up! ... 5:55pm finally getting a reading 90.8 6:15pm 92.6. Still in the front seat of my suv 631pm 93.6 6:55pm up to 94.2 and standing

Raising livestock can be difficult at times! Last night a well cared for and loved sow received her wings after having complications with delivery. It was determined that she did not dilate correctly, had a small pelvis, and a large upside piglet which lead the owners to selecting a c section in an attempt to save the sow and piglets. The sow was sedated and local numbing meds were administered at the surgery site to control her pain and make her comfortable for the surger...y. Sterile technique was used during the surgery to limit infection for the sow during surgery and recovery. Unfortunately, it was quickly determined that the piglets had died and the uterine tissue was not healthy. The owners elected humane euthanasia to prevent any further pain or suffering for their beloved sow. While sedated, medication was administered to help her peacefully pass over the rainbow bridge. Picture of the emotional event in the comments.

Hey guys! This breaks my heart but I am possibly having to find my baby Pearl a new LOVING PET ONLY home. Due to unfortunate life events. My life is a mess and ...this just adds to my heartache. She is 4 years old, she is indoor/outdoor, if outdoors i have a house and kennel, heat lamp, fan and everything she would need. I want her protected from all elements. She's up to date on all vaccines and spayed. She's friendly with other animals and children. Doggy door trained and knows many other tricks. I am in the Sacramento, CA area. Please help! See more
