With Virtual therapy taking center stage in 2020, I revamped my website, streamlined documentation and added Doxy for secure, anytime sessions. Check out the changes and let me know what you think. #2020Challenge #ChangeCanBeGood www.drcaseycooper.com
As requests and calls begin to come about how to develop mental health plans for students-athletes, here are my thoughts: All of us have been waiting in limbo during these unprecedented times for decisions to be made regarding 2020 fall seasons. This has left all of our kids in the first stage of grief, Shock and Denial. The remaining stages that include Sadness, Anger and Bargaining are soon to follow, and likely in rapid succession. Kids and teens experience grief and l...oss differently than adults, which means they can look normal on the outside while they suffer silently on the inside. I am recommending that coaches, parents and admin turn to their school’s grief response plan that is already in place for managing tragedies. (These vary district to district, and school to school so check your online platform for your school’s response packet.). These response plans can quickly be adjusted to support our kids who are dealing with real and perceived losses of seasons. As a parent of an incoming senior in high school, I am feeling these challenges daily right along with you. As a psychologist, I am happy to offer support for developing these mental health plans at NO cost. We are all in this together. As always, all the best in LIFE and sports, Dr. Casey #CovidGrief #SchoolReopening
Best part of TeleHealth visits are introducing my pets to my client family! Indiana, Chewbacca (yes, we went for ironic with our 3-legged little guy) and I are loving FaceTime with everyone. #flattenthecurve #stayhome
In a moment requiring social distancing, I want to remind all of my clients and families that FaceTime is an option for visits. I am currently offering in-person visits at this time because the office is large enough to accommodate the 3 foot distance recommendations and I have no known exposures limiting my movements. However, all clients are welcome to update their appointment to a FaceTime visit by adding a note when scheduling or texting me anytime. The loss of sports pa...rticipation can be a double loss to our lives. There is the obvious disappointment of competition opportunities, but the additional loss of relief we get from practice. The social, health and emotional benefits need to be met through other strategies. During this time of unprecedented upheaval, patience and balanced calm is critical. I am here for you all at this time and whether it’s in person or digitally, we will get through this together. All my best in life and sports, Dr. C
The loss of sports access (practice, fandom and competition) is a hurt to all of us. As athletes and performers, we lose access to the source of fulfillment, joy and exercise. As fans and supporters, we lose the ability to escape and cheer for those we care about. But athletes also lose their access to their coping, or what they would turn to as therapy when they are frustrated and hurting. A Double Loss. Basically, it hurts to lose the activity/sport, and you can’t turn to the sport to manage your hurt. Thus, everyone be kind to one another as we’ll grapple with our losses. Be mindful of your positive reframes to hold us over until the game and show is back on! #loveofsport #theshowwillgoon
A new study found the more time kids spent engrossed in digital screens, the more severe their symptoms of anxiety and depression became. Here & Now

The Girl Scouts, led by Vikki and the ...Board Advisory Girls, worked together to have fun, discussed the current GS program and gave recommendations on how to improve Girl Scouts even more, while Dr. Casey Cooper led the adults in a powerful discussion on raising girls.
