If you have been looking for my blog on "the" virus, it had to be taken down due to the potential that the original content could be misconstrued as medical advice or that it could imply prevention or treatment, when there are currently no proven methods. Here it is, re-mastered with I greatly hope, an unmistakable focus on GENERAL IMMUNE SUPPORT. There's some new content too, including my quick take on why I think elderberry is safe.

Northern California Women's Herbal Symposium still has spaces for upcoming session 1.3, which has been rescheduled to May 31-June 3rd (because of infrastructure issues caused by the rains last week). I'll be teaching "Brain Power: Improving Memory, Mood and Cognition," and another class entitled "Bone Health Beyond Calcium." Please come! I think it will be a sweet session, more intimate than usual, and it promises to be sunny! For more information, check here: https://www.womensherbalsymposium.org/welcome/ or to acquire a ticket (some discounted), go to Symposium 1.3 Ticket Swap on FB.

Preliminary results from the UC Cooperative Science study on produce safety after last year's urban wildfires. The upshot is that DIOXINS were measured below Prop 65 levels (but above background levels from FDA dioxin reporting), POLYCYCLIC AROMATIC HYDROCARBONS were inconclusive (possibly due to limitations of laboratory reporting thresholds), and the only elevated metal of concern was NICKEL, which was only found in a small amount of unwashed samples. This was a very small study and has it's limitations, but nonetheless is SLIGHTLY REASSURING.

You can help protect your health from harmful smoke and chemicals by optimizing what's on your plate. Here's my quick shopping guide for foods that promote healthy detoxification.

I wrote this during last year's urban wildfires, and it's all very relevant again. Wildfire smoke poses many health risks, releasing irritating particulate matter, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, organic chemicals, carbon monoxide and metals including mercury and lead. Additionally, over 6,000 homes and buildings have burned in the Camp Fire, which means the toxicant load rises dramatically if these compounds are airborne. Stay inside, use an air purifier, and if you need to go outside, wear a mask! Follow the link for more tips for self care and harm reduction....
