Last week I visited my home town Chicago. I couldn't be more proud of my mentor, Dr. Robert M. Pick, CEO of The Pick Group, who has become a best selling author on Amazon! Dr. Pick now focuses on practice management pearls for making private practice fun and successful in challenging times. We all hope to see Dr. Pick on a lecture podium at the AAP annual meeting, perhaps Chicago 2019? Here is his latest book, edited by great Jack Canfield, Mastering The Art Of Success.

Receding gums is the most common reason people seek an advice from a periodontist. Contrary to the popular belief that gum recession is a function of age, we predominantly see young adults presenting with gum recession. Gum recession often develops after some orthodontic movement, and is linked to aggressive overbrushing. But thankfully we can predictably treat and stop gum recession, and often restore adequate gum level over the exposed roots via tried and proven connective ...tissue graft procedure. This is different from the original "gum grafting" that was first described in the 60s. The connective tissue graft surgery is much less traumatic, and the results are not only functional but esthetically pleasing. During my training at Northwestern, there was an enormous emphasis on working together as a team, knowing your limitations and building up quality team members. This is my role model and inspiration. She is the reason I am what I am today. The small but mighty lady on the right is Dr. Timaner, aka my grandmother. If I am fortunate enough to achieve a third of what my grandmother did during her 60+ years career devoted to medicine, it would be an amazing accomplishment.
