This young man had a traumatic injury to his ear and underwent a complex two-stage reconstruction to rebuild his ear. Two segments of rib cartilage were harvested and used to rebuild the missing ear framework, which was placed into a pocket under his scalp. After several months the ear was elevated and a skin graft placed on the back side. Keloid scars can be a difficult and frustrating problem for patients! They often recur and require persistence and often multiple modalities of treatment. This can include surgery, injection with scar modulating medication and in some cases radiation. This young woman had a keloid scar at an ear piercing site which was excised more than a year ago. This was followed by multiple rounds of steroid injections.
