Long flights and road trips with heavy luggage can affect our backs and puts additional stress on the joints and muscles. Here are some tips to keep your back safe: 1. Roll a plane pillow or blanket and place it behind your back and the seat. .... 2. Keep moving! Every hour get up from your seat and stretch to avoid stiffness in your muscles. . 3. Pack light! Avoid taking unnecessary items. The heavier the luggage, the more difficult lifting and you're more prone to get injured. . 4. Lift properly Bend the knees and brace your core when lifting something heavy. Use the leg muscles and keep the weight close to your body. Make sure you dont twist your body. . 5. Use suitcases and bags with wheels so you can roll it. . 6. Dont forget to drink water on your flight and stay hydrated. . 7. Sleeping on the stomach is probably the worst sleeping position you can have! . It increases the pressure on your lower back as well as keeping your neck twisted for an extended period of time. . So it's no surprise to wake up all stiff and tight.... . If you've been used to sleeping on your stomach it is time to start changing this habit gradually. . Meanwhile put a very thin pillow underneath your pelvis to decrease the pressure on your lumbar spine (lower back) . BUT you're neck will remain twisted! And definately your cervical spine (neck) will not remain aligned with the rest of your spine! . . Make sure you get your spine checked regularly if you're a stomach sleeper .
