In this pandemic, everything is past. Another ghost from Down Homes in-store legacy. A great performance by the way.
Another in-store ghost from the past.
Any record collectors in the house? In a new interview on our site, Mr. Chris talks about his fascination with collecting 78s, and how he started Arhoolie Records with the funds he raised from wheeling and dealing old 78rpm records. https://bit.ly/3idJ2dD
Several years ago, Nicole Mullen and her wonderful exhibition staff at the SF International Airport designed & created in collaboration with Chris Strachwitz, a visual display titled, Down-Home Music, the story of Arhoolie Records. We have since, had an edited version installed in our El Cerrito store available to the public during open hours. Filmmaker, Kirk Leclaire of 55 Films has created a mini documentary to accompany the store display. You can link to it here: https://vimeo.com/458008396
According to Kirk, Our Re-opening Has Been A Success! We will continue, for now, with the Down Home limited schedule but adding one more day. Our new hours are now Wednesday through Saturday, four days a week, from 1 to 5 pm. Meanwhile, we continue to look for records, LPs, 45s, 78s, etc for cash or trade. You know our style. Same basic Covid rules will apply. Customers & staff will be required to wear masks at all times. No mask, no entry. We will have a small number of mas...ks available at the counter. Social distancing will be observed. Hand sanitizer at the door. We may need to limit the number of shoppers & time spent shopping to accommodate the most people safely. Unfortunately, our restrooms will remain closed to the public. If you can’t make it by, we are still doing mail order by phone 510 525 2129, web www.downhowmmusic.com or ebay https://www.ebay.com/str/downhomemusicstore See more
Good news from my pal Roger pictured here. After many stressful months, we are preparing to re-open Down Home Music. The state, county, & city have determined that some small retail can do inside sales as long as basic precautions are met. This is a trial run so our hours will initially be limited. Starting this September 2nd, we will be open 1pm til 5pm, Wednesday, Friday, & Saturday. Some basic rules will apply. Customers & staff will be required to where masks at all time...s. No mask, no entry. We will have a small number of masks available. Temperatures will be taken at the door. Social distancing will be observed. Hand sanitizer will be available. We may need to limit the number of shoppers & time spent shopping to accommodate the most people safely. Unfortunately, our restrooms will be closed to the public. We’ve missed you all and hope some of you can make it by the shop as we all slowly re-enter the world. If not, we are still doing mail order by phone 510 525 2129, web www.downhowmmusic.com or ebay https://www.ebay.com/str/downhomemusicstore As our valued customers, friends, & community, we always appreciate any input or advice you may have in all this. Love & happiness from Down Home Music.
Another ghost in-store from the past.
My holiday wall display at Down Home Fourth Street in Berkeley back in 2007. Many of you never saw this. It was a fun assignment. Recognize anyone?
From in-stores past.
