Wishing everyone a happy, healthy weekend!! While drinking my coffee this morning, I reflected on the man I met the other day. When I was walking the neighborh...oods of Palos Verdes, where I farm for real estate, I saw a house with a deep driveway, full of sea life art - many driftwood and shell garlands, painted rocks, and more. When I walked towards the front door, the home owner saw me - we started talking (at a 6 ft distance with my mask on ). He was about 75 yrs old and had lost his son (who was about my age) just a few years ago. He had been creating art as a means to work through his grief. He asked me what kind of sea life I like - and "mermaids" just popped out of my mouth (I like everything about the ocean - the waves, dolphins, shells, rocks that have been shaped by waves,..). He told me to wait and that he'd be right back. He came out with this beautiful mermaid and gave it to me. "This is for you" he said with a warm smile. I started to tear up. Here was a man in grief (a grief over something that no parent should ever go through at any age - losing his "child") and he was giving me a gift. The gift was more than the mermaid. He showed me the kindness in humans. He showed me that we all have much in common. He gave me a smile and a warmth in my heart. He gave me a reminder that people are good. Later that night, I went to the dreaded grocery store (one of the top duties I loathe). As I waited in a line - I rolled my eyes (secretly) - as the man in front of me delayed the line by casually conversing with the checker. As the checker rang up the last item, flowers, the man paid cash and then she handed him the flowers at the end so they were not damaged. He then handed them back to her and said, "These are for you. Thank you for coming to work every day." The smile on her face was priceless. In a world that's been unlike no other I have experienced in my lifetime, I am so happy to see and experience kindness. UPDATE 3/28/2020: Coronavirus and Real Estate: As of today, here is the update on the laws relating to real estate. The US Department of Homeland Security explicitly included the following as Essential Services into the federal list: ... (1) Residential and commercial real estate services and (2) leasing services. What does that mean? Residential and commercial real estate sales can continue under the State’s Stay at Home Order. You may leave your house as needed in order to do business, but only if necessary. However, please remember that coronavirus is still a very real threat and must be taken seriously. Only leave your home if necessary and try to conduct as much business virtually as possible. Please maintain 6 feet away from people, and only meet in person when necessary to effectuate a sale. Local rules will still apply, so if your County or City have enacted more strict guidelines, then you must follow those. The County of Los Angeles allows for the sale of real estate. The City of LA does not currently, although that may change. Can I do a showing if my City allows it? An Inspection? Yes. You are now permitted to perform showings and inspections. What about open houses? No open houses should be held.
