Dog & Pony Ranch

My baby chicks are almost all grown up! The 16-week-old "pullets" are spending their first night in the big hen house -- we move them at night when everyone is roosting. The pecking order has been established the past few weeks so the hens will hopefully wake up tomorrow and recognize their expanded flock. Looking forward to more eggs in a wide variety of colors as the young girls start laying in the next few weeks!

Our Dog & Pony Ranch guests for this weekend were exposed to Covid so did the responsible thing staying home and our place is available last minute (this is so unusual!). Our 2020 spring chicks have arrived! The 10 fuzzy babies are so cute and will grow too quickly over the next weeks. See our chicken’s stages of growth on https://dogpony.com/chickens-eggs.html. The Guinea fowl are 5 weeks old now so will be moving to their outdoor coop soon they all fly up to their roost bars easily now.

We are fortunate to have plenty to keep us busy/entertained during the virus crisis. Our Guinea keets are 2-weeks old today and have outgrown their initial brooder so moved into a larger enclosure (in the garage). They are figuring out how to climb and roost with new enrichment equipment so have been fun to watch as they learn. They run so fast -- I can hardly wait to see them fly!
