A Letter from our Director & Driver, @merlineclarke : What an incredible week we get to look forward to. The election will determine our leader, our actions we will define us. We are architecting our country's future. We have a choice to accept the men and women elected into office, finding ways to communicate, compromise and move forward that will unite us rather than argue, blame and fight where we will stagnate and wallow in upset. We'...re better together. For years I've watched people get on the Do Good Bus in the morning , sit as far apart from one another as possible and isolate themselves over their phones. The bus starts rolling and we make connections, have conversations and work side by side for a greater good. The economic, race, and party lines that divide us are blurred and we are united. Strangers become friends and when the day ends they don't want to leave, they want to keep the emotions and feelings of connection and accomplishment alive. We're better together. Tribes, villages, religions and communities built our country, not everyone shared the same beliefs, not every state agreed with each other, however we united, sacrificed and worked to create a bigger and greater union. DAY 30: VOTING OUT PLASTIC Did you know that plastic pellets used by shipping companies and other corporations worldwide are irreparably damaging our marine ecosystems? These "nurdles" exude and absorb chemical toxins that damage the marine environment. It was reported in a 2016 report that an estimated total of 230,000 tons of pellets pollute the marine environment each year. Last month, U.S. Senator Tom Udall (D-NM) introduced the Pelle...t Free Waters Act (S.4681). This act seeks to: 1. Prohibit the discharge of plastic pellets or other pre-production plastic materials from facilities and sources that make, use, package, or transport those materials; and; 2. Update all existing permits and standards of performance to reflect those prohibitions.
