Flyers, Posters and even Banners...... these are the most essential tools to getting your lost pet back quickly. We get asked all the time by lost pet owners, what is the first thing they should do to help find their lost cat or dog. Time and time again we say the same thing. Get up a lost flyer! With all the technology out there, a simple marker, some tape and paper continue to be the top tools that work to help get your lost pet back. It helps you, your neighbors and your ...rescue team get the sightings needed to help locate your missing pet! Make lots (hundreds sometimes) of simple, easy-to-read, phone number flyers! Put up big posters, 2 or 3 per intersection! Hit the major intersections near where your pet was last seen! See the example pics below. Get flyers and posters up in the immediate area as soon as your pet goes missing! Even a few handwritten signs put up right away, will help reunite a lost pet that a neighbor may have or have seen run by. We know these work the best! We are seeing far too many dogs and cats go missing right now. Please remind anyone you might see or know who has lost a pet, to get up lost flyers and posters asap!

Scanning the local lost and found pages, we noticed an extremely sad post. What someone thought to be a husky running through a rural area dragging what looked like part of a dog run cable. They determined it to be about a foot long. We didn’t know what it truly was but we had to be certain the dog couldn’t get caught up on the trees and branches she was running through. The sighter said the dog would run in fear if he even glanced in her direction. We immediately went to t...he area and drove for over an hour, talked to neighbors, and in the end set up a bait station and our camera. It wouldn’t take long before we saw her beautiful eyes staring back at us through the lens and snacking on chicken and kibbles! We had a time and place and she was primed for trapping. True to her previous timing she showed up, scared, nervous, but hungry enough to face her fears and we got her! Turns out our precious girl was more of a white Shepherd and had obviously been bred in the past year or so. The cable hung heavy on her fragile neck. She was thin but otherwise seemingly healthy and those eyes of hers were just chocolaty soul filled sweetness! We are happy to say she is resting with our friends at FOCCAS rescue. Signs have been posted and she’s been scanned for a microchip. We will update on her again soon! Crossville, TN

It was the perfect day for our team to adventure into town for some shopping and lunch. Of course right as we all arrive into Livingston TN, what do we see!? These two gorgeous pups running in the middle of a busy four lane road! Cheyenne jumped out of the car and quickly called them over to her. After they were secured in their car we all worked on trying to find their home. We put up a few flyers right then and there, drove around the area and even stopped into the police... station. With no luck we continued on and they spent the day with us! Since there isn’t a shelter in town they went home for a sleepover at JoAnn and Ron’s house for the night. The next morning the phone rang and it was their family calling! Turns out the batteries died on their electric fence collars and they were able to easily leave their home. Surprisingly they made it almost five miles from their house into town where we found them. Jack and Nala’s family were so appreciative! They came right away and picked them up. Welcome home sweet Jack and Nala! See more

When a small terrier kept running the streets of Santa Paula, CA, our team got tagged and went out to help! This guy was a runner and he had been seen for a few days before we were able to get there. Once there, we watched in terror as he would cross major roads and a busy highway! This little boy had about a 2 mile radius he was running, and just kept running! We watched as he would follow people but when they engaged with him, he went the other way. We set several traps, h...oping he would go in but he would run right by them. Finally we got a call from a family letting us know he had followed a teenage boy on his skateboard over a mile away and walked right into their house!! Shocked he was safe, we went over and leashed him up and took him to the local shelter, SPARC, so his owner could find him. The next morning, we got a call that "Houdini" as they had already nicknamed him, had escaped out of a harness and ran away while on a walk! Luckily, the area he was running in days before was near SPARC so he knew it and stayed in the area. We again went out, set traps and he ran by and avoided those too. We tried for 2 more days. People would call about seeing him but no one could get him. We watched him run down the middle of the streets, follow the man selling corn, hang out with the guys at the park, but he wouldn't let anyone catch him. The team was out constantly, but we couldn't get ahead of him! Then we got a call....a little girl playing in her yard said he ran right up to her, she gave him a piece of sausage and she picked him up! Again we rushed right over, leashed him and took him back to SPARC. On one of those drives team member Linda held on tight to him and he fell asleep in her arms. He had been running for so many days he was exhausted. We got him settled again and into a more secure area at SPARC and bid him farewell! We thought that would be the last time we would be seeing him. Cute, little dogs get adopted quickly usually but no owners came forward for him and he was now ready for a new home. So on his big day, one special adopter came to get him! After spending so many days hunting him down, our very own Linda decided she NEEDED to adopt him! She knew that she could keep him safe and give him all the love he deserved. So after his neuter, Linda picked him up and took him home! She renamed him Mojo in hopes of never giving him any ideas he needs to escape! Goodbye Houdini and welcome home and to the Dog Days family Mojo!! Dog Days Search & Rescue 23.12.2020

At the beginning of 2020 we decided to try and keep track of how many search and rescues our team completed. We did our best to record each rescue so we could have a total at the end of the year. We are very proud to announce that our team successfully rescued 130 animals last year. Of course this number does not include quick rescues or searches we went out on where we did not encounter the animal we were searching for. Nor does it count the hundreds of consulting phone cal...ls for owners to help them when we can’t physically search. These numbers do not count either, the many other community outreach programs we provide like spay and neuters, medical vet visits, euthanasia and cremations for sick and elderly animals that owners can not afford themselves. These numbers are a good insight to the amount of time, effort and passion our all volunteer team members put into saving animals. We do our best to help out on as many rescues as we are alerted to so please keep calling, emailing and tagging us! See more

Our team has been busy but we had to share this poor girl right away! She was found inside one of the local trash dumps in Crossville, TN. Workers arrived and found her there inside, behind the chain link fence this morning. We believe she had to have been dumped inside of there overnight. Poor baby!! It was very cold out so they brought her in their office right away. Casey just happened to be dumping off her own trash when she arrived to see this beautiful pity girl sitting... there. Casey says she is super sweet so we are hoping someone has been missing her. She is also extremely skinny and could very well be ill. Casey transported her to our good friend Jan with FOCCAS rescue. Jan immediately took her in to hold onto her and get her medical treatment while the process of looking for owners is started. She has no microchip and will require proof of ownership. Focus On Cumberland County Animal Safety does amazing things for the animals in Cumberland County so please help Jan and her rescue and this sweet pity girl by making a donation directly to their paypal below! Our Dog Days team works very closely with our local animal shelters. Our partners at the LA County Agoura Animal Care Shelter recently made us aware of a lady whose little dog went missing. It wasn't just any dog though, it was her granddaughters dog. Millies family had gone on vacation and left Millie with grandma. Unfortunately, Millie escaped and decided to go on an adventure of her own. Grandma was not on social media and needed help asap. She had reached out to the she...Continue reading

Back in the day when we first started search and rescue we only had the option to use game cameras. These cameras have to be placed up, left unattended and unchecked for several hours or even a day at times as to not disturb the area and possibly scare the animal off by constantly checking its footage. We would then remove the SD card and either check the footage in the car via laptop or bring the card back home to see if we had captured any sight of the animal we were search...ing for. Now with advanced technology and live Arlo cameras we are able to place a camera up and watch it live all day and all night from anywhere for optimal recon. Our success in catching animals has not only improved because of the live feed but it has also given us the ability to run several different rescues at the same time in different places. It’s amazing how much we have been able to accomplish with three Arlo’s but we know we could do so much more if we had a couple additional cameras. It’s not often that we reach out and ask for donations unless it’s for a very important piece of equipment we need or medical to save an animals life. We have gotten to the point where we need your help now to take our rescues a step further and even more life saving! We are in desperate need of monthly donors to help run our live animal video feeds. Even if it’s $1 or $5 a month it will make a huge difference for us! And if you can not be a monthly sponsor that’s ok! Please consider a one time donation! The actual Arlo camera itself is $399 each. (We are hoping to raise enough to purchase two). The monthly cellular charges to run the live footage is $45 plus taxes for each camera. (Copy of receipts for current monthly bills in the comments) We are so grateful for any and all help we receive from our wonderful community. If you can not donate even sharing this post will help us! We thank you so much!! Halloween is HERE!! Please bring in your pets as there will be many people out tonight and Halloween is NOT a pet friendly time. Please read the tips below to help keep your pets safe! -Do not leave pets outside! Secure all cats safely inside (both indoor and outdoor cats) and be extra safe with your pets when opening the doors for trick or treaters. -Keep pets away from Candy! Candy, Sweets and chocolate could be fatal to some pets.... -Make sure your pets are microchipped, chips are updated with current info, in the event they do escape. With all the Halloween parties you would be surprised how common this is becoming. -Collar and tags on your pet with current contact info would be super helpful in the event they get out! Its the quickest way to get them back home! Have a safe & Happy Halloween! Dog Days Search & Rescue Team

It's double trouble! Our team got tagged in two lost dogs in Ojai, California. Neighbors were reporting seeing these two dogs roaming the area for at least 10 days. Jennifer K, along with Nikki from 805 Bully Friends and Family went out to scout out the area and gather intel. They found the dogs quickly, a German Shepherd and a Belgian Malinois, and learned where they had been sleeping. The dogs appeared hungry, scared, but wouldn't come to them and then ran away. Jennife...r W. From our team showed up with a second trap as the team decided to set traps to see if we could secure them both. Trap set and with camera inside we were able to watch from afar, exactly what was happening at the trap. Within minutes we could see that one was checking out the trap. Thankfully, she went right in, hungry and happy to have a warm meal. We set up a second trap next to her, hoping her partner would go right in knowing she was close by. He proved to be a bit more difficult and it took longer for him to trust the trap. Eventually, he too went into the trap. Both dogs were extremely calm in the trap and we could tell they were sweet dogs. Most important they were safe and not going to get hit by cars or worse. The dogs were both transported to The Ojai Humane Society of Ventura County. They had no collar or tag and were checked for a microchip but none was found. Once there, the female was leashed up (very easily) and taken out of the trap. She was very sweet, letting all of us love on her a bit. Once the male was leashed and taken out of the trap, he leaned against Karin and let her pet him too. Both of them were very gentle and seemed to appreciate the love we were giving them. They walked past a stray cat and other dogs right into a kennel together. Once we reunited the two of them, their tails wouldn't stop wagging! Fortunately their owners were very concerned about them and picked them up from the Humane Society the next morning. It would appear they were not aware these two were escaping their yard and making some neighborhood runs, but we are not sure how or why they were getting out and about. Hopefully their little adventures going forward will be limited to their own yards. Great job to all on our team that helped with these two. Jennifer K, Jennifer W, Karin Sterling, Kim Price and our good friends Nikki Lynn and Kathleen Macgregor, we appreciate all the hard work, research and behind the scenes done on this one by you all!! Dogs are safe and home! Thank you!

Josie the cattledog was on a walk with her dad and dog brother when an off leash dog approached them. Josie is a recently rescued dog and is scared of other dogs. She backed out of her harness and ran away. She got lost in Santa Barbara where even though there are a lot of houses, there is also a lot of land and places for her to hide. Her owners put up bright, colorful posters and a call came in with a sighting. Unfortunately, it was a few days old and no one had seen h...er since. We know that cattledogs like to hide, if you remember our story of Harley, missing for 46 days before we captured her!! Her parents kept putting posters up and finally another call came in. She was seen on a hillside, but the sighter thought she may have been a coyote. The next day, her owners went to the hill multiple times, trying to get her to come. Unfortunately, she wouldn't come close enough. We decided to try a trap. It had been 12 days and Josie should be very hungry! Our team headed out and was scoping out a flat area on the hillside to put the trap, when they saw Josie. She walked down a path and disappeared into bushes. The team got the trap in place near where she had just walked! Within 5 minutes of setting the trap and leaving the area, Josie was seen on camera!! She is a curious girl and really inspected the trap. She smelled her bed inside and walked all around the trap. Finally, she walked right in! After 12 days she was safe!! She ate all her chicken while waiting for the team to get back and carry her down. While they carried her down the hill, she just laid in her bed (which we used for scent inside the trap) so happy to be safe! Once back at her house, she couldn't contain her excitement and wiggled her butt and whined at her mom! So happy this girl is safe! We always say that posters are our number one tool. The right sighting at the right time will come in!! See more

Remember the two pitbulls that our team rescued off of Grimes Canyon a few weeks ago? The shelter named them Nori and Kome, neutered them and got them up to date on all their vaccinations. Some of our team members went and visited them the other day and learned a bit about their personalities. Nori, who was the protector out on Grimes Canyon, turned out to be a big love and goofball. He chased balls but didn't bring them back, would sit on command and loved giving kisses...! Kome is more shy but would come up and gently take a treat. Kome is battling kennel cough and is starting to feel better. Yesterday, after a lengthy meet & greet, Nori was adopted! We couldn't be happier for this silly pup. Now we need to focus on finding Kome his forever home. As soon as he is 100%, we will go get some more video of him. If you are looking for a sweet dog who is non reactive to other dogs and takes treats gently, please consider Kome (#A760908) He is available at Ventura County Animal Services. Our team has been super busy and this next one is a very lucky little dog! Manchas was heading to a new home in Camarillo, CA with an elderly gentleman and his caregiver. What should have been a happy time for him turned scary very fast! Unfortunately, when taken out to potty, he slipped the collar he had on. Now he was lost in a new area, and only weighing about 6 pounds, it seemed Manchas didn't have a chance. But we never give up hope! Our team was made aware he was miss...ing and we posted a picture of Manchas on Camarillo Missing pets and quickly headed out to help his new owner by hanging some lost posters and searching. We needed sightings and lost posters up asap and we wanted to help this small dog and his elderly owner. We had only hung up 8 signs when a call came in. Someone had seen him the day before, across busy Santa Rosa Road! Within minutes we got another call. They had seen Manchas behind the Brookdale Senior Living area just hours before. Now we had something to go off of to search. Linda and Jenn scoured the area of the sightings but didn't see him. They decided to finish hanging posters when suddenly, they spotted him. He was at the back of the Brookdale property. They quickly parked, set a trap and waited. Luckily it didn't take long for Manchas to follow the trail and in he went! Yay, he was safe! After almost 48 hours lost he was finally safe and Linda and Jenn took him straight home, helped get him settled and adjusted his collar and harness so everything fit him good! His owner was very happy and relieved! Great job team! Welcome home little Manchas, we hope you have a very happy life going forward!

We had our first real frost here in Tennessee. Our minds couldn’t help but wander to Nellie. She was out there somewhere in that small rural town she claimed as her own, going from home to home hoping for a meal. It wasn’t always this way for sweet Nellie. See, rumor has it that Nellie knew the love of an owner once but they passed away. Others had tried to take her in but she was always in search of something or maybe that someone she lost, so she just became the towns dog.... We had a little history with Nellie. She was pals with another dog Diesel that was running wild in the town a few months earlier. She was the reason for that successful rescue by luring him in for us. At the time she was being cared for by yet another family but they’ve also moved away since then and sadly we started seeing her posted as roaming on the local page once again. Every couple of weeks we’d make a plea to inform us where she was, but by the time we got there she’d moved on... until today!! Jamie, a caring town resident had found her and kept her safe for us until we could get there so we made one more trip north to officially get her! We called Jan at FOCCAS who was ready and waiting to bring Nellie into her rescue and find her a forever home where once again she will know the love, comfort and companionship of her own family. As happy as we were to finally have her safe and out of the coming weather it’s always hard taking her away from what she’s always known and had been searching for, but when even a great rescue doesn’t tear you up, it’s time to hang up the gear. Help us by wishing Nellie the best in her new life. We hope you find what you’re looking for sweet girl. You can check out Nellie’s debut in our Diesel SAR Video! https://www.facebook.com/1477833952477344/posts/2586775644916497/

Good test to take

Dog Days Search & Rescue 08.08.2020

We know that not every search and rescue is filled with big drama and over the top excitement. Thank goodness! Each pet saved IS a pet saved!! Here is a relatively calm rescue. :) Via the Oxnard Missing pets page, we were messaged that a little terrier mix dog had been running around a neighborhood in Oxnard for at least a week. It turns out that a few people had tried to chase him down and catch him, but he was too fast and smart being able to escape their helping hands. To... top it off, there were a few near misses from getting hit by cars. Fortunately, a few neighbors started to leave food and water with the hopes this would keep him from running off onto the busier streets. He then decided that one of these houses that had dense cool bushes and soft moss was the best option to take a load off, hide and sleep. What was even better, is that the homeowner, Elaine, also provided food and water. He showed up for a few days in a row and slept safely in the bushes. Elaine knew to ignore and not attempt to grab him, helping him feel secure to come back. A neighbor, Elizabeth, a few houses down from this loose boy’s oasis, had set up a trap and feeding station. For whatever reason, he didn’t venture down there to sample any food. Linda on our team headed out to set up a trap in Elaine's front yard, this boy’s safe zone. After 4 1/2 hours and a few strolls by the dog around the trap, it seemed he was not hungry enough to go in. The trap was moved to the front porch for the night as a feeding station, from which he ate the next morning. Neighbor Elizabeth graciously reset the trap and checked every hour. After about 3 hours, the call came in from Elaine that he went into the trap and was safe!! We took him to Ventura County Animal Services in Camarillo to be checked for a microchip and logged in. Unfortunately during his stray hold no one came for him. But we do have good news... He was adopted his first day available!! He now has a new family that will love and care for him! Yay!! Great work to all involved!

10/22 Update!!! https://www.facebook.com/1477833952477344/posts/2639264013000993/ We received a call late at night about two pitbulls seen on the side of the road in Moorpark off Grimes Canyon. The caller stated one of the dogs seemed aggressive and was barking and running up to his car. Local law enforcement was called as well as Ventura County Animal Services. Knowing that there was just one officer on duty, Jenn and Linda offered to go out with traps to see if they cou...ld assist VCAS in getting them to safety. The dogs turned out to be scared but not aggressive. They ran away as anyone approached. We decided that traps were the best option as they were scared of people. We had everyone leave the area and we set two traps. Unfortunately the dogs had run down the road and even though in the same vicinity, they were too far to smell the traps. Linda and Jenn drove down to where they were resting. They were on a very narrow part of the road, huddling behind a guardrail. They pulled off the road as best as they could and took some food out to try and entice them. The one barked fiercely and protected the other one. They tried to lure the dogs into the van but still they wouldn't come close enough. As cars flew by, they knew they had to quickly devise a new plan. They decided to move the traps closer to the dogs. They set them up right behind the van, on the side of the road. This was a risky plan as the trap could scare one or both and send them both darting into the street. The larger, more vocal dog went quickly into the trap. The other one ran to his side. Jenn grabbed a chicken breast and went towards the more docile dog. The dog ate right out of her hands! The other trap was a bit short for this dog to willingly go into so Jenn held open the door and tossed in bits of chicken. Finally he went in far enough to close the door! Linda and Jenn breathed a huge sigh of relief...these dogs were safe!! Now they had the task of lifting them into the van and get them to VCAS. This was a huge feat too as the largest dog weighed approximately 80 pounds, plus the weight of the trap. Adrenaline helped and both dogs were loaded in safely. Once at VCAS, the dogs were logged in, placed into kennels, given some food and water and were left to decompress. Unfortunately neither of them had microchips and completed their entire stray hold with no one coming for them One is pretty malnourished and has some scaring on his leg but should make a full and easy recovery. They have been named Nori and Kome and both are now AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!! They are young dogs and have their whole lives ahead of them. Travel Day!! https://www.facebook.com/1477833952477344/posts/2633136356947092/ Sammy Visit Update https://www.facebook.com/1477833952477344/posts/2631550083772386/... Sammy IS Safe! https://www.facebook.com/1477833952477344/posts/2627966887464039/ 10/9 Sammy Update https://www.facebook.com/1477833952477344/posts/2627966887464039/ Sammy’s situation and story could be as dire as dire gets. We have a handful of days to find a rescue to save his life and that’s it. Sammy is a pure bred seven year old German Shepherd who has lived and loved the same family for all of his life. Sammy had an incident earlier this year where he protected one of his owners and caused a bite for the very first time. Unfortunately instead of working with him and addressing the situation that happened he was reprimanded by being physically kicked and hurt. He is now being kenneled in a crate and is only allowed out to potty and then is put right back in. The owners have reached out for help to a few rescues but none have been able to assist in taking him in. It’s now come to the point where he will be put to sleep if he can not find a rescue this week. We are not a rescue that is equipped to take in dogs or animals that need rehabilitation so unfortunately we are only able to do so much. We have been reaching out to every rescue we can think of but haven’t gotten anywhere. Now we are hoping and praying a courtesy post might help share his story to save his life. We have all the information and can relay every detail to a rescue if interested in helping him. We truly believe Sammy is not a lost cause. He is still a good dog and can thrive in the right home. He loves other dogs and people. We are begging for Sammys life for a rescue to come forward. We will offer to fundraise for any training he may need if a rescue can commit to him. Please if you know of any rescues that might be able to help Sammy tag them here or have them contact us ASAP. He is running out of time. Thank you so much. Location: Thousand Oaks, CA *Please no inappropriate comments about the family. They don’t want to see him be put down.

Just a couple weeks ago you couldn’t touch Nutter without him cowering, flinching and feeling uncomfortable. He’s come a long way in such a short time after being trapped and brought into rescue. No owners have come forward for him but at this rate his progress is doing so well he should be able to find a new loving family soon. Thank you Jan at Foccas for working so hard with him and giving him so much love. Lots of hugs for you Nutter Butter!
