Doc's Dogs For Vets 14.01.2021

We were so sad to receive word that Sierra was diagnosed with a very serious health issue. She had the best dad who took amazing care of her and saw her through to the end. She will always carry a special place in our hearts.

Meet Cherry, our latest service dog placement, and her new mama, Angie! We're so pleased that they have finally been able to meet and begin their life together. Congratulations! We're looking forward to updates on your journey together.

I am a disabled veteran and woman of color who requires a service dog. I tried to attend my appointment at European Wax Center located at 250 Doug Baker Blvd Bi...rmingham, AL 35242, but the white woman at the front desk wouldn’t allow me to enter with my service dog. She refused to tell me her name, so we’ll call her Karen. I explained to Karen that this wasn't a pet, but a service dog. When Karen said she needed to see certification, I explained that it is illegal to ask for that under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) but that she could ask me Is that a service dog? and How does the dog help with your disability? Rather than asking these questions and allowing me to continue with my appointment, she argued with me about public access rules, cut me off, raised her voice at me, refused to look up the law, and essentially accused me of lying about my disability. She called her district manager, who ALSO told me she demanded I show them certification despite this being an ADA violation. The district manager then asked me to leave, so I never got my appointment. European Wax Center please tell me this is an anonomally and you will take action. Do you require all your locations to be accessible and staff to be familiar with ADA rights? How does corporate respond when incidents like this occur? This is just one story from one disabled person on one given day, but discrimination happens to us WAY too often. INVISIBLE DISABILITIES ARE VALID, and it is NOT your responsibility to verify our disability! I could have shown an identification card, but those are not accessible to all service animal users. As a Veteran, it is my duty to defend the rights of ALL Americans. Please join me in spreading the message of accessibility by sharing this story and these videos.
