Remember how much hope 2020 had when you started the year and wrote in all the events... as a bar, we hold so many good memories in each of the events and holidays that come around each year and looking at this picture was a tough. We missed St.Patricks Day, March Madness, Cinco de Mayo, Pride Weekend, the Olympics, Negroni Week and right now we would be gearing up our German flare and buying beers for the upcoming Oktoberfest. In case you just woke up, today is National Oyster Day and we are feeling the seafood. After three months of failed negotiations with our landlord, dealing with break ins and homeless encampments around Hayes Valley every week, and our own personal struggles during the pandemic thus far, it’s been a challenging few months and we are sad to officially report that Dobbs Ferry is permanently closed. When we took over Dobbs Ferry in January of 2018, it was the beginning of what had been a dream of ours, to start a restaurant company, Diablo Restaurant Group, and s...pread our love of hospitality and do what we do best every day. This wasn’t what we had imagined when the Shelter In Place started and it broke our hearts to say goodbye to a staff who had become like family and place that we worked so hard to make our own. While the current situation of the world has changed what life looks like right now, we are thankfully healthy and that dream is still alive. We will be back in some other form when the time is right so please keep in touch, keep following us, and help us as we will continue to use our social media platform to support our industry, our friends and staff in their own adventures until the day comes and we start a new one of our own. As @sfist reported earlier this week, we aren’t alone on this growing list of businesses, so keep supporting small businesses whenever and however you can, and have compassion for those that are putting themselves out there every day to keep restaurants and bars alive. Well it’s been almost two months since the Shelter In Place started and the longer this continues, the harder it seems to feel optimistic about much of anything, let alone how bars and restaurants are going to look when we get to the other side of this pandemic. However, the need to believe and the need to be hopeful is so important because we will get to the other side of this and we will be stronger because of it, as individuals, as a community and as a city. Dobbs Ferry is... a small business, a single proprietor restaurant owned by Steve Izzo and Lee Ann Frahm, a husband and wife team who met while working @waterbarsf and bought Dobbs Ferry two years ago, finally achieving their individual lifelong dreams of starting their own restaurant company. Our owner Lee Ann has been a chalkboard artist for almost 15 years and in the bar and restaurant business for almost as long. When she decided to paint this, it was about finding a message that would connect with someone as they walked by... words can heal, they can make us smile, they can make us feel, they can make us laugh or cry, and they are powerful enough to stop us in our tracks and make us take one extra minute to breathe and appreciate who and where we are. Many of you, including @londonbreed with the inspiring @dear_sf campaign she started, have taken a picture of our mural while on their walk around Hayes Valley or drive around the city. Hi Friends... while we may not be able to open back up yet, we will still continue to support our friends who have other small businesses. @oakes_nancy at Boulevard is serving a delicious pork chop dinner this week with rhubarb compote, asparagus and snap pea salad with strawberry shortcake for dessert. Accompanied by the single vineyard Bonaccorsi Pinot Noir from Peter who is helping to it at the California Wine Merchant. Go visit these places, it’s an affordable option for amazing food and drink with proper social distancing. Have a good night!

Thanks all for the support these last two weeks. Just a heads up, we are closing our takeout window for now, so we can get a more long term game plan in place and figure out the best way to weather this situation. We will keep you posted when these burners get cooking again, but until then, be safe and drink Irish Car Bombs at 5:15pm every day... that’s how we survived the first two weeks !

Happy Tuesday! Over these last two weeks as friends and family have asked us how they can help, the best way we knew how was to feed people... it’s what we do and it who we are. So thank you to @grecojenl @lorilu4 @rfrahm45te for supporting these faces and many more, as they are the some of the few who have carried us day in and day out to create this business and are also the ones who lost their jobs here at Dobbs Ferry due to us having to close the business down. Our staf...f is like family and they are the reason why we are still here standing and doing what we can, one day at a time. If you have worked with any of us here or @waterbarsf or @onemarketsf @epicsteak or are a neighborhood restaurant friend who is out of a job and in need of a burger today, thanks to others generosity, we are buying! Come by as this will be our LAST day of takeout for now so we can regroup, rework our online platform and plan out the coming month to be more effective, efficient, and safe for all those who wish to order friday night chicken dinners or come to the takeout window in the future. The sad reality of us these days is that there is only one person still cooking in this kitchen, and we miss all the noise and teamwork that usually come out of there. However we are so grateful for @howlongchef and her hard work and resilience as we aim to keep our friends and neighbors fed. Happy Saturday!
