It was not witches who burned. It was Women. Women who were seen as; Too beautiful, Too outspoken, ... Had too much water in the well (yes, seriously), Who had a birthmark, Women who were too skilled with herbal medicine, Too loud, Too quiet, Too much red in their hair, Women who had a strong Nature connection, Women who danced, Women who sang, or anything else, really. Any woman was at risk of burning in the 1600’s. Sisters testified & turned on each other when their babies were held under ice. Children were tortured to confess their experiences with witches by being fake executed in ovens. Women were held underwater and if they could float, they were guilty and executed. If they sank and drowned, they were innocent. Women were thrown off cliffs. Women were put in deep holes in the ground. Why do I write this? Because knowing our history is important when we are building a new world. When we are doing the healing work of our lineages and as women. I weep for the world. I weep for the tragedies, the violence, the racism, the loss, the division, the lies, the confusion. I look to the divinity in Nature for solace & for answers. I look to the trees, specifically. . They have so much to teach us if we would just learn to listen. Balance is fate & the cycles will flow wether we like it or not, but this resistance to Right our Wrongs will only continue to hurt, kill & divide us. .... The Ancient Redwoods that have been standing for hundreds & thousands of years just stood in Grace & Resilience through one of the worst fires in recorded history. And still they survived. And still they stand & clean up our messes & survive beyond us & in spite of us. They are a beacon of Hope in an often scary world. . If we can learn from the Wise & Ancient Trees to withstand the most violent & catastrophic occurrences of our time - let them burn around us as we stand tall in Honor, Peace, Resistance - we can be the life giving seeds to the next generation - allow a next generation to BREATHE & TO BE. Cleaning up tagging & drawing on my mural of a version of the great #Avalokitesvara - the ancient Buddhist deity, or Bodhisattva, that embodies the compassion of all Buddhas, of all beings. In different religious, spiritual, regional sects of Buddhism, Avalokitesvara appears differently, has slightly different origins, etc. In one, Her or His form is expressed through one thousand arms of compassion that contain one thousand eyes of wisdom. I was able to create this painting... to include 100 arms & eyes, which is the closest representation of this I could manage. Our Universe, Our worlds, Our cities *need* more compassion & wisdom, so I designed it for anyone to be able to stand in front of it with the intention of having a significantly positive impact & subconsciously (& consciously) embodying more of these powerful qualities yourSelf. To my grateful surprise, in these past three years it has stood almost completely untouched. Getting tagged or drawn on in a mildly destructive manner in which I am still able to salvage it with not much effort at all. When it first went up, people were leaving offerings at its feet. That deeply touched me. The same can not be said for so many Sacred sites around the world - noteably regarding the roots of this piece, Tibet is continuing to get demolished at the hands of the Chinese Government & it’s programming. Countless years & generations of ancient knowledge, wisdom, teachings, ways of life - destroyed. I bow to my many blessings in this life, while also holding deep space & reverence for the awareness that all is not so for many, many others. I am committed in this lifetime to continue to stay knowledgeable, active & prolific in meaningful art & tangible ways to assist my fellow sisters & brothers. How do you say goodbye? @aerialwarehouse I loved - I do love you - so much. . I came here religiously over the years, developed my greatest strengths & faced my toughest challenges with aerial arts here. . Aerial has always forced me to face my fears - of height, of strength, of inability, of unworthiness. Aerial shows me that I’m everything I admire - as long as I consistently & exuberantly work towards it. It’s more than a physical & mental practice for me - it’s spiritua...l. Movement IS Medicine. . The coaches, managers & peers working & cheering alongside me made it the truly epic communal space that it was for a gym. From the classes to the showcases to the relationships. It was so much more than that. . I’m figuring out new ways to fly, but still hoping AW has a chance to rebuild in the future. I’ll miss you so much. Repeat after me: "If it's happening to others, it's happening to me." It's happening to me...me too...repeat after me? But what about for those who still cannot speak? What about those who continue to be forced against their will to be submissive & meek? The 4 yr old child who has never known the way the sun feels on their skin, but learns 40 times a day the way that darkness can take over men, that knows more than you & I the way consistent violence feels, that's experienc...ed more rape per day than we even eat our meals? Where is their protest? Where is their release? Reform? The surge of words & stories & people & names - keep them coming, keep speaking, let's keeping sharing our pains. Let's keep revealing & dissecting what much of our society has been built on, but we can't stop there & keep fighting over what's valid or what is truly "wrong". From racism, oppression, daily harassment, to assault, rape, trafficking & murder, I can't sit here & say which one is further along the scale of injustice & pain for those that went through it, but I can sit here & say that if we have lived through it, that we *are* healing, we *are* growing, we *are* shifting, we *are* showing - to the world & most importantly to each other - what we are capable of changing when we come together. What we are capable of seeing when we hold up mirrors for one another. What we are capable of shifting when we speak the pain together...but we aren't hearing all the voices. We aren't quieting all the noises. That are echoing in our small bubble, while our sisters & brothers are suffering in the rubble - just below us, at our feet, in a different house, down the street. Human trafficking is real, it's huge & it's pervasive. It's dark, it's deep, it's unbelievably invasive. This is a new beginning, most certainly not the end. We must lean in. Because when it's happening to others, it's happening to me & I love you & them & mySelf too much to let this be our story.
