Oyster offers access to more than 100,000 e-books that can be accessed by iOS users in a matter of seconds. While they are attempting to expand to other platforms they are currently only an iOS service that offers as many e-books as a reader can consume for about $10 a month. While they are only a year old they have managed to partner with high profile publishers such as Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and HarperCollins, allowing for access to a wide variety of best sellers. By all...owing mobile access to the reader Oysters users are not tethered to toting around physical books that then restrict accessibility. It’s as easy as launching the Oyster app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod and picking up where you left off before you left the train, taxi, or bus on a noninvasive device you already lug around daily. Oyster is being called The Netflix of Books and offers their monthly service at nearly the same price, hopefully soon they’ll expand to a multiplatform model. While you may be convinced you don’t have a problem or can quit any time a new smartphone app may disagree with you when it come to your potential addiction to your smartphone. Developers from the University of Bonn have created the app Menthal for Androids, which monitors cell phone usage and compile the data into a comprehensive report that can tell you whether or not you have a problem. This information is not only displayed to the user, but is also sent back to the re...searchers who are also looking at the information to determine the moods of users that have the potential to reveal if certain users may be experiencing depression or another mood disorder based on not just their usage but what they are doing with their time on their phones. An example would be spending significantly more time being social (texting friends, participating on Facebook, etc.) would indicate a more cheerful feeling; where as reduced social activity or withdrawing would indicate a more depressed mood. The app is free and only sends the information back to the researchers on a Wi-Fi connection. You can check out more information in the link below, but don’t forget to like, share, and weigh in! http://www3.uni-bonn.de//app-may-signal-cellphone-dependen

The translation of dogs’ thoughts into English has been the dream of many pet owners and the No More Woof team over at The Nordic Society for Invention and Discovery has decided to tackle this dream and attempt to make it a reality. The No More Woof device utilizes EEG sensors, specialized BCI software, and Micro Computing to essentially read and interpret the brainwaves of dogs and translate their thoughts into English. At current, they are in the development and testing pha...ses and can distinguish a few basic thoughts or needs of the dog wearing the contraption. Some of these include hunger, tiredness, and curiosity. For the animal lovers out there concerned about safety, not to worry! The product is being produced by animal lovers and pet owners who have been testing it on their own dogs and state that the No More Woof is perfectly safe and animal friendly, causing no harm to the dog. While they are only offering English, if their product picks up momentum the hope is to include Mandarin, French and Spanish next, and continue to add many more languages. This past week the FAA has announced that they now intend to allow passengers to use Portable Electronic Devices (PEDs) throughout the duration of the flight. This includes take-off and landing as long as devices have been placed in airplane mode. Each airline will be implementing this in their own way and time; but the hope is that by the end of the year to allow passengers on all flights to continue their book on their Kindle or Nook uninterrupted. To check out more details on this new change in policy please take a look at the article below from the FAA’s website! Don’t forget to like, share, and weigh in!
