Dignity USA began in 1969 in Los Angeles under the leadership of Father Patrick Nidorf O.S.A, and Augustinian priest and psychologist. In 1973, Dignity USA became a national organization. As of 2021, there are 37 chapters in the United States. Dignity USA created a community in which participants can safely and openly worship with other LGBTQ+ Catholics, share spiritual and personal concerns, and work together on educational and justice issues. Dignity USA currently produces Dateline, a monthly news bulletin.
