When you're young and dumb, you still know the difference between what's right and what's wrong. Someone backed into the customer's car, and just took off without leaving a note. I remember my first big mistake I made working at the auto body shop during my 3 month probation period. No one intentionally wants to make a mistake. When i was still in school, before I dropped out of college to work, we are penalized for our mistakes. That trained us to be scared of making mistake...s. But once you get out there in the real world, the only way to ascend to make progress and grow is by using your mistakes as stepping stones. That very second I became aware of the mistake I made, my heart sank, your mind goes blank, and you're nervous about the consequences. There's only two options you can choose to make from there. Option 1, stay silent and try to fix the problem yourself. Option 2, take a deep breath, and sum up the courage and walk into your boss's office, and tell them straight up that you made a mistake. It's very hard to acknowledge that you fucked up. I've seen grown men scared to speak up. When something as important as your job is on the line, you don't want to lose it. Working on this 2009 Honda civic Si brought me back to the old days when I was a young man and got my first car back in 2008. I was hella excited and joined a car forum. I saw all these fucking sick car builds, and wondered if I can aspire to have something like that one day. Back then aftermarket carbon fiber parts was a popular trend. The two main brands were VIS and Seibon. So I'm looking at this hood right in front of me, and it just flashed back so many memories when I w...as young and carefree. One thing i learned about these aftermarket carbon fiber parts was that the clearcoat will quickly oxidize and just look like trash if left unprotected. Back then the only options to protect it as to either bring it to a auto body shop and have them reclear it or paint protection film. Both options were expensive, but now with ceramic coatings, there's a more budget friendly option, that's also quick and convenient. One of the main reasons why i decided to work for someone else for 7 years before i started my own business was because i lacked business experience, knowledge, and hands on experience. Learning from the detailing forums provided alot of value and information. I learned that a perfect scenario where every single individual panel have not been repainted would be our ideal work situation. But in reality, we will come across a high percentage of cars that had some panels repain...ted before. I wanted to learn and understand the aftermarket repainting industry. I seeked out people to teach me what are the steps of doing it the right way, and what happens if the process is short cutted. I took an interest in it because i knew down the road when i move on with my own business, i needed to be knowledgeable to understand how to approach repainted panels during the polishing phase of detailing. Repainted panels can be complex depending on if fast clear or slow clear was used to repaint a panel. The past 38 days was the busiest work load Ive endured for this year. Out of those 38 days, i was only able to take 2 days off. Whether you're busy or have no business at all, there's one thing you will go through no matter what. Stress, headaches, and problems. Reflecting back to when i was part time and didn't know how to properly run a business yet, which explained why i didn't get much customers. Everyday my head would hurt due to the stress of having no income and no wo...rk. Now that my business is established and business is stable, I'm still going through the exact same problems right now. Working long hours every day causes physical stress to the body, focusing on the task to meet deadlines causes mental stress, being bombarded by messages also causes stress to reply promptly. The one thing i always ground myself with is perspective. when business is slow, there are problems, when business is good there will still be problems.
