If you know me you know I LOVE inspirational books, and this one might top them all. Just Mercy is the true story of attorney Bryan Stevenson and his devotion to justice and saving lives of the wrongly convicted. At times, I have to put it down as I become so enraged at the injustice that still exists in our country today. This is a powerful and moving book that came to me at a time I was questioning what impact I can have in the world and how I can use my knowledge, skill and training to further justice in our society, especially for those whom society may cast aside.

Do you ask the VA if your doctor is a staffer or a contracted doctor? Maybe you should! This unfortunate Veteran sought VA medical treatment at a VA facility, was misdiagnosed by VA contracted physician (not VA staff physician) and although he filed a malpractice claim against the VA, he missed the deadline to file a malpractice claim in state court. He now suffers from debilitating lifelong pain caused by the misdiagnosis. So this is the problem, many, many services and service providers of all types, not just medical, REQUIRE binding arbitration agreements, basically denying people their day in court and depriving them of the opportunity to avail themselves of the power of the court and a jury trial. In arbitration, the plaintiff (in this case the patient) and the defendant (the owner of the medical practice) each pick an arbitrator. The third arbitrator is generally a neutral party, and the t...rio’s decisions are usually final. The process can be much faster than a jury trial, which can mean lower legal fees. Do not be afraid to fight a medical bill or any bill for that matter. When visiting a doctor with whom you don't have a long-standing trusted relationship, don't be afraid to ask: How much is this test going to cost? Also ask, what exactly are you being tested for? Do not be comforted by the facility's in-network status. With coinsurance and deductibles, you can still be out a lot.

Doctor had some bad luck finding employment, luckily the court allowed him the same relief and protections other businesses routinely utilize.
