In light of the COVID-19 virus, the Alpha Sigma Chapter has come to the decision to cancel Spring 2020 Recruitment. I would like to acknowledge the hard work that our Recruitment and Publicity Committees have done towards planning recruitment. As unfortunate as this announcement is, we understand that these precautions are necessary to reduce the spread of the virus and ensure the safety of the UCSB student body. Delta Epsilon Mu is a strong believer in uniting communities a...cross all health fields in order to help people together. We would like to remind everyone to try their best in socially distancing themselves from interactions with large groups of people. For the ones in our community most affected by this public health concern are not the young and healthy, they are the elderly, the immunocompromised, and the individuals with chronic medical conditions. Simple practices such as washing your hands thoroughly, covering your mouth when you cough, and avoiding touching your face will go a long way to helping all members of our community. In addition, the fear, anxiety, and distress caused by COVID-19 can lead to social stigma toward people, places, or things. COVID-19 is not directly linked to any population or nationality, and it is important to counter these social stigmas to ensure the emotional and mental health of everyone. Finally, we would like to thank all the healthcare workers, providers, and professionals that are continuously fighting this outbreak every day. We appreciate your devotion to the wellbeing and care of your communities.
