We're on a roll over here. Yesterday we added notes to our menu to indicate food sensitivities and preferences. So now you'll have no questions about which soups are gluten-free (many of them!) or which sandwiches are vegetarian. For the first time ever, we've also started posting the ingredients in all of our meals, so you'll know exactly what's in your food. We're pleased to make it easier than ever to design meals that work for everybody. Check out tomorrow's menu: "https://www.deenut.com/order.php"

Now you can see the ingredients in all the food we make. When you mouse over the menu title, you'll see that ingredients follow the description. This means that anyone - with any food sensitivities - can choose the right items from the menu. Don't forget to order for the week! Check out tomorrow's menu: "https://www.deenut.com/order.php"

Go ahead and order next week's meals today -- that way, you don't have to remember it while you're watching the inauguration or out making the world a better place: Oakland Day of Service ("http://oaklandnorth.net//martin-luther-king-jr-day-celebr/") Enjoy your day! This is one of my favorite reality checks: Portion Distortion Interactive Quiz ("http://hp2010.nhlbihin.net/portion/portion.cgi") . This little quiz not only reminds us how much portion sizes have changed over the years, but calculates the activities required to burn off all those extra calories. DeliciousNutritious delivers meals in proper portions. Your eyes may be surprised, but your belly will be relieved. And you'll notice how much better you feel when your body doesn't have to work overtime to digest an over-sized lunch. Check out tomorrow's menu: "https://www.deenut.com/order.php"

At DeliciousNutritious, we source our produce as locally as we can get it. Sometimes, that means we need to be flexible in our kitchen. Spinach crops and daintier greens are harder to get because of this crazy freezing weather. This means we may be substituting heartier greens when necessary. But they're still local and as fresh as always! Check out tomorrow's menu: "https://www.deenut.com/order.php"

It's like anything else, right? Guzzling Big Gulp-sized sodas all the live-long day is bound to do some damage. It only makes sense. Between the sugar and the artificial colors and flavors, the soda is a nutritionally void source of calories -- at best. Are sodas to blame for the obesity crisis in America? Well, Coca-Cola certainly doesn't want us to think so. You're about to start seeing Coca-Cola ads which are clearly attempting to deflect the obesity issue. Check out Coca-...Cola to address obesity for the first time in ads" ("http://finance.yahoo.com//coca-cola-address-obesity-first-") . Continuing through the comments, I am reminded of the phrasing I see associated with debates over gun control. Isn't that interesting? What do you think? Should soda makers play a part in the slimming of our nation? Is it enough to promote zero-calorie sodas? Check out tomorrow's menu: "https://www.deenut.com/order.php" See more

Our mission is to make nutrient-dense food convenient, affordable and environmentally responsible. Our containers--even the ones that look like plastic--are fully compostable because they are made from plant-based plastics. I like to re-use them in my kids' lunches, because then I don't have to worry about losing them on the playground or on field trips. The little brown bags are made from recycled paper and can be used for a million other things (add brightly colored tissue and they make cute gift wrap.) If your lunch room collection starts to grow, you can probably donate them for your local elementary school auction or garage sale. Thrift stores like them too. Sure, the Dollar Meal fills all the family bellies for 20 bucks. But Dollar Meals are high in calories and low in nutritional value. If you do some number crunching and compare cost by units of nutrients, like fiber, then you see there's not much bang for the buck. Visit this post on NPR: How to Make Healthy Eating Easier on the Wallet?. . . ("http://www.npr.org//how-to-make-healthy-eating-easier-on-t") and then appreciate the tremendous value of your DeliciousNutritious meal! You can do wonders for your body by making one meaningful change to your diet: Eating oatmeal for breakfast. Check out the Top 10 Reasons to Eat Oatmeal (" http://www.mrbreakfast.com/article.asp?articleid=27") from Mr. Breakfast (lower cholesterol, weight control, reducing blood pressure are three biggies). Our Best Ever Oatmeal takes it up a notch because we combine uber-healthy steel-cut oats with the protein punch of quinoa. Lightly sweetened with cinnamon and honey, it's a delicious bowl of nourishment. Try it with a Berry Cup one day, Toasted Almond Pieces another day. Top of your week and Friday's oatmeal with a little Tart Apple Love for extra tummy warming goodness. Check out tomorrow's menu: "https://www.deenut.com/order.php"

Do you read food labels? I though I had a handle on choosing foods based on the label - BUT - after reading Defusing the Health Care Time Bomb ("http://www.sfgate.com//Defusing-the-health-care-time-bomb-") on SFGate, I realize my shortcut label checking probably isn't working. For instance, we have learned to weed out products with high fructose corn syrup, or any product which lists sugar right off the bat. But further in the list we might find two or three or more *differ...ent types* of sugar. Add them up and guess what? Sugar overdose! (And sugar goes by at least 50 different names - check out this list ("http://www.dietriffic.com/2009/03/26/names-for-sugar/") .) According to this article, more than half of the US population is at risk of obesity or the disorders associated with it, and excessive sugars may be responsible. If tricksy little food giants hide sugar in the labels, we are powerless in our battle for better health. Or are we? We can surely eliminate processed foods and replace them with meals made from whole fruits and vegetables, healthy oils, lean meats. And thanks to DeliciousNutritious, it's much easier than it may seem. Check out tomorrow's menu: "https://www.deenut.com/order.php" See more
