DID YOU KNOW? Warren Buffett's annual letter always reveals some interesting insights. Here are some highlights: ***Don’t pay attention to quarterly fluctuations. Again Buffet bemoans the quarterly obsessions on Wall Street. We should too! ***I will never risk getting caught short of cash: With $112 billion held in cash, another reminder how being conservative and always to hold onto some cash for bad times and opportunities. ***Speaking of how many assets globally are curren...tly at super-high valuations: Prices are sky-high for businesses possessing decent long-term prospects. This shows the mentality of many investors who believe things are currently over-priced and over-valued. ***We have no idea as to how stocks will behave next week or next year. Predictions of that sort have never been a part of our activities. Think longterm. Work longterm. ***Always work with accurate numbers. Accurate inventory is the truth and will serve you best. Cheating will always lead to failure. ***Disciplined risk evaluation works. ***Dangers of Debt: Rational people don’t risk what they have and need for what they don’t have and don’t need. ***When a mega-catastrophe strikes, we will get our share of the losses and they will be big very big. However, we will be looking to add business the next day. When bad things happen, opportunities emerge too. ***"The American Tailwind". It is beyond arrogance for American businesses or individuals to boast that they have ‘done it alone.’ The tidy rows of simple white crosses at Normandy should shame those who make such claims. There are also many other countries around the world that have bright futures. About that, we should rejoice: Americans will be both more prosperous and safer if all nations thrive. But we believe in and will always invest in America. See more

I just ran across these quotes from Karl Lagerfield perspectives with comments by Leonard Steinberg. I found both interesting so thought I'd share. Karl Lagerfeld - who passed away earlier this week - was one of the world's greatest fashion designers. Fashion Designers are always looking toward the future for emerging trends and fashion is often a good barometer of our times. Some of his quotes are very meaningful as it relates to our world too ... People who say that yeste...rday was better than today are ultimately devaluing their own existence. I strongly believe that what we do right now matters most. We cannot turn back the clocks. We cannot yearn for the past when we have the responsibility for what happens right now. That requires rolling up our sleeves and getting things done, getting involved, speaking up, improving things. Doing. Complaining never produces much. When people talk about the good old days, I say to people, 'It's not the days that are old, it's you that's old.' I hate the good old days. What is important is that today is good. I often refer to the 'bad old days'. Yes, there certainly are elements of the past that were amazing, but for the most part I think we are all better off than ever in so many ways. In real estate land I think things like cell phones and computers have revolutionized our world and our daily ability to work from anywhere. While we can appreciate and learn from the past, we should always be present and have our eyes focused on building a better future. Youthfulness is about how you live not when you were born. Sometimes I am saddened by young people who act as if they were ancient: they lack creativity, energy, vitality and imagination. Likewise I meet 'older' people whose energy levels and creative thinking are inspiring. They are hungry to learn and improve. Age is just a number, even though there are certain physical realities that cannot be ignored. When we talk about the importance of millennials in our world, let's not think of it as just an age group, but more of a mentality that every age group aspires to be. I know no-one my age or older who wants to look, sound or act older! I'm open to everything. When you start to criticize the times you live in, your time is over." Times change. The world changes. We evolve. When we stop evolving and opening our minds to new ways, new words, new things, we are fighting nature. And when you fight nature, you usually lose. Evolution is inevitable. Celebrate it. Participate in it and you are certain to be rewarded.
