DEATH VALLEY '49ERS INCORPORATED 71 st Death Valley '49ers Encampment Postponed to 2021 The Death Valley '49ers Encampment is an event that brings many families from several states and countries to Death Valley National Park. When the Coronavirus first impacted the United States the organization hoped we would still be able to have our November Encampment. There are many variables that we have to contend with that are out of our control. We have to think of the health and wel...fare of our members/volunteers, National Park Service Personnel, employees for Xanterra, and the families at the Timbisha Shoshone Village. The Board of Directors had decided to wait until the first of September to make the decision on whether or not to postpone the 71st Death Valley '49ers Encampment. Due to the increase of the Coronavirus new infections and deaths totals the Directors cannot see how we can have a successful encampment and be in accordance with the guide lines set by the state of California, Inyo County, and the Death Valley National Park Service. If one person were to contract the Coronavirus while attending the encampment it is reason enough to postpone the encampment. With only two+ months before the encampment the Board of Directors has decided to postpone the 71 st Death Valley '49ers encampment until November 2021 The next General meeting of the Death Valley '49ers is set for September 1 Ith & 12th in Ridgecrest, CA. at the Rodeway Inn & Suites Heritage. We want to thank you for your patience and we look forward to seeing you in November 2021. Directors: Dennis W. Harders Shirley Hyytinen Jim Graves Beverly Malley Henry Golas See more

Another Blast from the Past. I think my first one was too easy. Not so much for this one. This is the 1949 Monument dedication.Recognize anyone? It is a rare pic directly related to the original 49ers if you catch my meaning.

Well, friends, just a few short months away, is our annual Death Valley 49er Encampment. There will be music aplenty, along with various historic character reenactments, history presentations, Western Art Show, golf tournament, wheelbarrow race, pioneer costume contest, and a craft show. This year we will also be having a horseshoe tournament for the adults and for the kids, as well. In addition, we will be having craft projects for the kids. A photo stand in will also be available for taking a commemorative picture. If you've never been to Death Valley, you really need to come to see all the beauty this land has to offer. There are various hiking trails and historical sites for everyone to enjoy. Hope to see many old faces and some new faces as well!
