That’s a wrap, well almost, we still have the shafts to do next year but with the tunnel complete we started sending most of our equipment from New York back to California. We were first on this project in 2017 when we welded the TBM together and started pipe installation late last year. Another @herrenknechtag tunnel boring machine we are assembling. We just finished one up in Kemano, B.C and this one in Los Angeles, CA we have been on for a couple of months. A major milestone was reached this morning in New York as the last three tunnel pipes were offloaded. We should have the tunnel welded out by Thursday. Thank you to our whole crew for the amazing job they did on this project. There were a lot challenges early on that our crews had to overcome to get to this point. Great job guys. Our guys just spent four weeks in Washington, D.C. welding the cutter head for a 28 foot diameter tunnel boring machine. This is our fourth time on this project in the last 5 years. Off to New York for two of the guys to work on our tunnel project and back to California for the rest. A cool job we are doing in the middle of the desert. We are extending the height of these bulkheads by 20 for the shutdown so that if the water level of the aqueduct rises it won’t spill over. A cool time lapse video from our tunnel project in New York. This video shows the 16ft diameter pipe weighing over 100k lbs being positioned and placed onto the pipe carrier at the bottom of the shaft. It has been in continuous service for over 50 years, but due to the shorter-than-expected service life of some of the pre-stressed concrete cylinder pipe (PCCP), approx. 28 miles needs to be relined with steel to ensure future reliability. Currently, Metropolitan is relining 4.5 miles in Carson and Los Angeles County, with more on the way. 8 Days into our desert shutdown and we are ahead of schedule thanks to the efforts of our amazing crew. Most of our guys are working 15-18 hour shifts to ensure completion. We can’t say it enough how lucky we are to have this great crew that helps challenging projects like this go smooth.
