Got a rare view into the inner workings of a dental office "behind the scenes." I never gave my dentist Douglas R Maxson in San Jose, CA, enough credit for incr...edibly careful manner in which he operates his business and takes care of his patients. EVERY thing is recorded and managed for the safety of his patients. Before we go back into a "second wave" lockdown, get out there and see your medical and dental professionals NOW. Each is working hard to keep you safe, and you need to help by keeping yourself, your body and your teeth safe. Remember routine procedures are far less painful and far less expensive than an emergency one! I'll be featuring Dr. Maxson for my community newsletter on real estate, local businesses, health tips and cool recipes to try! Get your FREE copy by emailing me to get on the mailing list! See more

I am posting because my previous post based on covid specialist NYC emphasized hand to face contraction and seemed to downplay the importance of aerosol transmission and the wearing of masks. My good friend PhD has written papers on aerosol droplets and this video adds to his comments in this video of the importance and success of the Czech Republic’s mandatory wearing in public of masks. I may be wrong but thought it is now law in China also. I am going to start wearing a mask in public. As usual, any health professional I welcome commenting. I in no way am pretending to be an expert. Just hoping to help.

ALERT! From a Covid specialist in NYC: The latest data on getting infected Covid -19 is one predominant method: HAND TO FACE!!!!!!!!!... (after hand touches person or surface contaminated)!!!!! YOUR EYES! YOUR NOSE! YOUR MOUTH! Wash your hands!!!!!(or use hand sanitizer) After every hand contact with an object that you don’t control Keep your hands away from your face !!!!! Keep your social contacts limited!!!!! Aerosol transmission less common. Wearing a mask helpful primarily to remind you to KEEP YOUR HANDS AWAY FROM FACE!!!!

To all my patients and friends ...we have been advised by CDC and Dental Association to not do any elective procedures at this time because of Covid-19. If you have infection that you feel needs attention please call....antibiotics and pain meds should be used first . We are allowed to see you if necessary. For safety for all we should postpone if we can until given all clear. I and staff are feeling great,no symptoms and we hope you are the same. We are diligently ma...intaining infection and sterilization protocols as we want you and us to remain safe and healthy. Someone is in the office usually 10-2 M-F to handle calls and questions and of course you are always welcome to call me. Be safe and healthy. This will pass. See more

Reposting from Mike S. Thanks Mike From a member of the Stanford hospital board. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - CORONAVIRUS -- 1. If you have a runny nose and sputum, you have a common cold 2. Coronavirus pneumonia is a dry cough with no runny nose. 3. This new virus is not heat-resistant and will be killed by a temperature of just 26/27 degrees. It hates the Sun. 4. If someone sneezes with it, it takes about 10 feet before it drops to the ground and is no longer airborne. 5. If ...it drops on a metal surface it will live for at least 12 hours - so if you come into contact with any metal surface - wash your hands as soon as you can with a bacterial soap. 6. On fabric it can survive for 6-12 hours. normal laundry detergent will kill it. 7. Drinking warm water is effective for all viruses. Try not to drink liquids with ice. 8. Wash your hands frequently as the virus can only live on your hands for 5-10 minutes, but - a lot can happen during that time - you can rub your eyes, pick your nose unwittingly and so on. 9. You should also gargle as a prevention. A simple solution of salt in warm water will suffice. 10. Can't emphasis enough - drink plenty of water! THE SYMPTOMS 1. It will first infect the throat, so you'll have a sore throat lasting 3/4 days 2. The virus then blends into a nasal fluid that enters the trachea and then the lungs, causing pneumonia. This takes about 5/6 days further. 3. With the pneumonia comes high fever and difficulty in breathing. 4. The nasal congestion is not like the normal kind. You feel like you're drowning. It's imperative you then seek immediate attention. Serious excellent advice by Japanese doctors treating COVID-19 cases: Everyone should ensure your mouth & throat are moist, never dry. Take a few sips of water every 15 minutes at least. Why? Even if the virus gets into your mouth, drinking water or other liquids will wash them down through your throat and into the stomach. Once there, your stomach acid will kill all the virus. If you don't drink enough water more regularly, the virus can enter your windpipe and into the lungs. That's very dangerous. Please send and share this with family and friends. Take care everyone and may the world recover from this Coronavirus soon. The new Coronavirus may not show sign of infection for many days. How can one know if he/she is infected? By the time they have fever and/or cough and go to the hospital, the lung is usually 50% Fibrosis and it's too late (Fibrosis is not reversible). Taiwan experts provide a simple self-check that we can do every morning. Take a deep breath and hold your breath for more than 10 seconds. If you complete it successfully without coughing, without discomfort, stiffness or tightness, etc., it proves there is no Fibrosis in the lungs, basically indicates no infection. In critical times, please self-check every morning in an environment with clean air. See more

Please read from infectious disease Dr I'm a doctor and an Infectious Diseases Specialist. I've been at this for more than 20 years seeing sick patients on a daily basis. I have worked in inner city hospitals and in the poorest slums of Africa. HIV-AIDS, Hepatitis,TB, SARS, Measles, Shingles, Whooping cough, Diphtheria...there is little I haven't been exposed to in my profession. And with notable exception of SARS, very little has left me feeling vulnerable, overwhelmed or do...Continue reading

STROKE IDENTIFICATION: During a BBQ, a woman stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) ...she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes. They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Jane went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening. Jane's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 PM J...ane passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Jane would be with us today. Some don't die. They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead. It only takes a minute to read this. A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough. RECOGNIZING A STROKE Thank God for the sense to remember the '3' steps, STR. Read and Learn! Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke. Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions: S *Ask the individual to SMILE. T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (i.e. Chicken Soup) R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS. If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency numberimmediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher. New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue! NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the otherthat is also an indication of a stroke. A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to 10 people; you can bet that at least one life will be saved.
