2020-21 VARSITY PEP CAPTAINS ANNOUNCED

Diamond Bar High dbhsorg 05.01.2021

A Humanitarian In Times Of Uncertainty SOURCE: LA TIMES - HS Insider (For Students, By Students) Katrine Lee, a 17-year-old senior at Diamond Bar High School, works as the Diamond Bar District Executive and Humanitarian Committee Chair for the Raising Awareness to Improve Species Existence Humane Foundation.... The RAISE Humane Foundation is a high school-run non-profit organization that works towards environmental sustainability and promotes humanitarian campaigns. Lee says it has been a learning opportunity for her to further her understanding and grow her leadership skills. As the Diamond Bar District Executive and Humanitarian Committee Chair, Lee works to oversee the high school chapters in the Diamond Bar District. She also works to lead humanitarian and environmental focused projects in her community. I’ve always had a really strong pull towards humanitarianism, she said. I don’t know enough about our environment but I’m working on it because it’s definitely a huge part of our lives. Despite the challenges and restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, Lee has led multiple projects to help her community. Some projects include restoring bee colonies and donating isolation gowns and face shields to different hospitals. We’ve done a lot of fundraising and collaborations with small businesses to help them out, she said. Looking forward, Lee hopes to attend college near Capitol Hill so that she can intern with various congressional committees. Additionally, Lee hopes to pursue her humanitarian efforts by joining different humanitarian-focused organizations in the college. If I choose to be quiet and don’t try to get involved, I’m choosing not to express myself, Lee said. That’s not advantageous to myself or to my community. https://highschool.latimes.com//teens-now-how-generation-/

THE BULL'S EYE Senior Lexie Martinez has recently taken a pitch to play softball for San Francisco State University. SFSU is a public California state universit...y that competes at the Division II NCAA athletics level. Martinez is planning to major in criminal justice, in addition to playing softball. Martinez committed to SFSU last November, after evaluating four other college offers, including the University of Hawaii at Hilo, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Akron University and SFSU. I chose SFSU because it reminded me of home and I loved the coaches, Martinez said via Instagram. I also loved the environment and felt I would be successful at SFSU. Martinez’s journey with softball began when she started playing in elementary school. As a member of a club softball team, Martinez was exposed to the sport at an earlier age than some of her competitors. By the age of thirteen, she decided that she wanted to play at the collegiate level. Martinez said that this goal kept her motivated and competitive about the sport. Lexie has been and still is one of the hardest workers I’ve ever coached, DBHS varsity softball coach Kurt Davies said via email. I emphasize that she still is, because I’ve seen a ton of athletes through the years that have eased up on the workload once they’ve committed. She currently plays with a travel ball team called California Thunder- LeVier Vankirk, in addition to playing for Diamond Bar High School girls varsity softball team. Over the years, Martinez has racked up many awards, and was named one of the best pitchers in the CIF Southern Section. One of her favorite aspects about the game of softball is being able to play with her friends and the competition which she says sustained her interest in the sport. Softball has also impacted her life in other ways. I feel softball has [given] me confidence and provided me with a stronger mentality, Martinez said via Instagram. I also always have my teams back and am a leader. Martinez attributes her success to her consistent work ethic. She said that she works out everyday and has completely dedicated herself to the sport, both physically and mentally. In addition, she said that she believes that the leadership skills she gained through softball will help her succeed in college and beyond. On top of the life-long skills she has learned, her nine years of competitive softball experience provide her with a vast amount of knowledge regarding the sport. Playing on a club team as well as on the school varsity team has provided Martinez with an unparalleled level of experience. I couldn’t be happier or more proud for Lexie, her family, her travel coaches and my coaches here for creating the perfect village in order for her to thrive, Davies said via email. Overall, Martinez said that playing softball has been a positive experience for her, and recommends that children who want to pursue a college softball career should work hard and stay positive despite setbacks. Some advice I would give is to stay motivated and always be passionate in softball because that will help you succeed in this sport, Martinez said via Instagram. STORY BY: Deesha Pathak, Asst. Sports Editor SOURCE: https://dbbullseye.com/2020/pitching-to-the-next-level/

This will allow for more classroom space on both levels. READ COMMENTS TO SEE VIDEO

THE BULL'S EYE Print3d Works Club Finds New Solutions Print3d Works, a DBHS STEM club bridging business and design, has decided to continue manufacturing commissions and club projects, but has moved its production center to one of its club advisor’s workshops instead. With such a large space, they are able to continue working and doing what they love while following appropriate COVID-19 safety protocols.... We are dealing with the current situation by continuing to take orders and moving production to Mr. Bloomfield’s shop. Because the work area is so large, we are able to keep production going in this time, co-president and senior Caitlin Lee said via email. GO TO DBBULLSEYE.COM TO READ MORE

MATH MADNESS SEASON ENDS Well, now we know why the math team from Adlai Stevenson High School from Lincolnshire, Illinois, is ranked #1 in the Nation. They were perfect Wednesday, November 18, 2020. Our team's run in this competition has ended for the year. Our DBHS MATHLETES put up a good fight, even jumped out to a 5-2 lead.... Brahmas 32 v Stevenson 40 We had one perfect score. Way to go, Tony Wan !!!!! Unfortunately, the other team had five. Tony’s incredible performance vaulted him up to #71 in the nation. Our math team's primary goal is to get students involved. They had almost 50 students doing crazy hard math problems on their own time, FOR FUN !!!!! Even though they lost today, they certainly don’t feel that way. Thank you all for the love and support you’ve shown our team. Thank you also to coaches Jeff Brose, Dena Lordi and Lisa Arionus. GO BRAHMAS !!!!!
