We all know this is going to be a tough time for low income folks and one of the best ways we can help those in need is to make sure that they have access to food. The Westside Food Bank (www.westsidefoodbankca.org/) provides food to 70 member-agencies that are on the front lines of helping both low income and homeless throughout Los Angeles. By contributing you are helping fill food pantries in many local agencies so that those who truly need food will get it. I’m going to m...atch every dollar donated up to $1000 so together we have a chance to contribute $2000. Because they buy in bulk and have ongoing relationships with food providers, this $2000 will go a very long way to help those in need. Please join me by donating today. Monica, the girls & I have worked with and supported the Westside Food Bank for over a decade - putting together Thanksgiving baskets, delivering food to low-income folks and walking in their walk-a-thon. And they're continuing to help those in need during these difficult times - "We will continue to provide food for people in need, but changing circumstances have increased operating costs as we keep up our essential service."

Unfortunately, some divorcing couples still think it would be better/easier to have a judge make decisions for them. The below article shows why leaving one's fate up to another flawed human being with almost absolute power is a VERY BAD idea - it reads "A federal judge in Kansas has been publicly reprimanded for sexually harassing court employees, having an extramarital relationship with a convicted felon on probation and being late for court engagements." And this is a FEDERAL judge - someone appointed at a much higher level than a family court judge! Avoid this mess, keep your kids out of the middle and retain your savings by working with a qualified divorce mediator instead. www.DavisMediation.com http://www.abajournal.com//federal-judge-reprimanded-for-v

Good article on the importance of going to couples counseling sooner rather than later (so couples don't end up needing my divorce mediation services). https://www.mindbodygreen.com//when-to-go-to-couples-thera

This video explains how our divorce mediation process keeps 90 - 95% of our clients out of court. This includes four fundamental principles: 1. Mediation is a Client-Focused Process, 2. Mediation is an Informed Decision-Making Process, 3. Mediation uses an Impartial/Balanced Third Party and 4. Mediation is entirely Confidential. By applying these four principles we help de-escalate the strong negative emotions that parents are feeling in order to help them make reasonable decisions - which helps families get through divorce without traumatizing the kids & bankrupting the parents.

Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way. Viktor Frankl Frankl's "Man's Search for Meaning" is one of the most important books of the 20th century and should be read by anyone wanting direction for how to survive and thrive out of difficult times! https://www.brainpickings.org//viktor-frankl-mans-search/

This video gives parents a framework, as well as overall themes and specific talking points, for talking with their children about the decision to divorce. This is a conversation that is both difficult for parents and critical for the children (I’ve had clients in their 40s and 50s recall vivid details from this conversation with their parents from decades before). Which is why I’ve researched this issue to provide parents with a structure that works for this conversation. I’ve also put together a handout that is available at my website: https://davismediation.com/downloa/Telling-the-Children.pdf
