Our Bridge Housing Community (BHC) at Monterey and Bernal in South San Jose’s District 2 received statewide recognition with a visit from Governor Gavin Newsom. Our site was built quickly and efficiently, and is now housing some of our most vulnerable residents. All residents were formerly living in motel rooms and referred to this site by a County case worker. ... Residents like Sandy mentioned they feel safe here. Our site will be a model for communities across the State as we continue helping people stabilize their lives. BHC’s provide a bridge from homelessness to self-sufficiency and permanent housing. The wait is almost over! The Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services is preparing for a phased reopening of playgrounds and exercise equipment... beginning Friday, October 23. We are excited to start welcoming families back to our 290 playgrounds throughout the City of San José, and our teams are in the process of ensuring that these areas are ready for play. Our team is hard at work reinstalling swings, nets, play mulch and more for your return. There will be capacity guidelines for each play area posted, and parents/caregivers will be responsible for ensuring that their children are following the rules. Multi-lingual signage will be posted with the do's and don'ts, including wearing face coverings at all times, no food or drinks, keeping 6 feet from anyone outside your household, washing hands before and after using the playground, and users will be responsible for sanitizing equipment before and after use. Please stay tuned and check bit.ly/prnsreopens and our social media for more updates.
The City of San José is beginning the search for our next Police Chief. This is a very important role, and all residents should have the opportunity to provid...e input. We are launching a series of virtual community meetings in the spirit of encouraging an open dialogue on this important recruitment. The public will have an opportunity to speak and share their perspective. If all speakers have gone and there is time remaining, City staff will wait ten minutes for additional participants to join before ending the meeting. We encourage residents to attend their respective district’s meeting if possible. Don't know your District? Input your address here to find out: https://eservices.sccgov.org/rov?tab=dt. We currently have nine scheduled meetings five are district-specific and four are language specific (Spanish and Vietnamese). See below. COVID has distanced us from our normal lives filled with friends, family, and community. It’s no surprise that we see our neighbors longing for interaction and engagement. Last Friday our office, along with the San Jose Police Department and the EGOPIC neighborhood association, teamed up for a socially distanced Ice Cream Truck Community event to address the uptake in gang presence and illicit activity at Great Oaks Park. We want to thank all our partners and community members who joined and made this event a socially distanced success!
Unleash your inner artist! Truck signs are getting a new look and we are searching for student artists to help #keepSJclean! Winners’ designs will be featured on #SanJosé recycling trucks. Check out SanJoseRecycles.org for more info #SanJoseRecycles
#SanJose, keep the drivers who pick up your recyclables safe: place all symbol, including cardboard, in your recycling cart or save any extra for next week's collection. Flattening them can help get more into your cart too!
