Meet the Coast Guard's newest FULLY OPERATIONAL National Security Cutter! After three long years to build and outfit KIMBALL, we recently returned to homeport h...aving completed ALL of KIMBALL's many evaluations and certifications. KIMBALL is now officially certified as "Ready for Operations" and we are actively finalizing preparations for our first patrol. We overcame many obstacles, including a partial government shutdown and the COVID-19 pandemic, to get this ship ready. It was no easy task and truly took a team effort to make it happen. We could not have done this without the support of so many, including our Ohana, Huntington Ingalls, the CG's Mission Support Directorate (esp. CG-093), our local Honolulu CG units, numerous PSA-1 and PSA-2 contractors, and so many others! Mahalo Nui Loa!

#MissionMonday #DidYouKnow, The U.S. Coast Guard has begun implementing new i911 technology in order to streamline the flow of information and better serve mari...ners in distress. Recently, U.S. Coast Guard San Diego had a case in which i911 was utilized successfully, saving manpower and allowing #USCG assets to remain vigilant. Watch the video to learn more!

Today we are celebrating something more than a day off from work, a picnic at a park or fireworks in the sky. Two hundred and forty four years ago, 13 colonies completed a journey that created independence from England to form these United States. The Declaration of Independence was ratified on 04 July 1776, and THIS is the reason we honor this day. Keep in mind all that took place then and now, that allows us to enjoy the Freedoms we cherish and continue to support. Happy Independence Day everyone.

HAPPY 81st ANNIVERSARY U.S. COAST GUARD AUXILIARY! Recreational boating is and has been one of America's favorite past times for many decades. As this act...ivity grew over time, so did the need for assistance on the water, along with seamanship training. On June 23, 1939, as a result of these demands, Congress passed legislation that established the Coast Guard Reserve, its volunteer civilian component, to promote boating safety and to facilitate the operations of the Coast Guard. Groups of boat owners were organized into flotillas and divisions within Coast Guard Districts around the country. Members initially conducted safety and security patrols and helped enforce the provisions of the 1940 Federal Boating and Espionage Acts. Then in February 1941, a military reserve was created and the volunteer Reserve was renamed the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. For more Auxiliary history, visit http://join.cgaux.org/history

Fun fact: The Francis Scott Key buoy has no navigational purpose. The star-spangled buoy is used to mark the approximate location where Francis Scott Key wrote... The National Anthem as he was held prisoner on a British warship in 1814 during the bombardment of Fort McHenry. *Correction: Key was aboard the British ship to negotiate the release of a prisoner. Thank you to the history buffs who pointed that out!

Check to make sure your child has the correct-sized life jacket. If you lift up on the shoulder straps and it pulls up over their head, it's too loose! Make sure it fits snug and it is U.S. Coast Guard Approved!

Don’t raft up or congregate with other boats or boaters. Keep recreational boats apart as much as possible to avoid mass gatherings and to abide by social distancing guidelines. #OperationDryWater
