Just a reminder that we are dark tomorrow, January 28th. See you next week!Just a reminder that we are dark tomorrow, January 28th. See you next week!
Chula Vista Sunrise Rotarians along with other community members showed up Saturday at the CVESD offices to drop off food, clothing, toiletries and personal care items for Community Through Hope. This wonderful organization serves families in need within our community. Following the Rotary motto of "Service Above Self," these Rotarians braved the threat of pending rain and the current Covid-19 pandemic to provide assistance to others. In addition, over $200 was collected in our new "Change for Change" drive to support The Rotary Foundation. President Jeff stated "It was a fun time and great to see everyone. Thanks to everyone who participated."
Tonight we had the pleasure to welcome four members of the Rotary Club of Coronado! Ivan Dunn and Tom Mitchell shared the history about their well-known flag project which was started in '94-'95 by member Bob Watson. The project, which has grown from the inception, uses Rotary club volunteers to place American flags along both sides of the median on Orange Avenue. There are currently 180 flags that are displayed eleven times per year, including Memorial Day, The 4th of July..., Veteran's Day and Martin Luther king Day, in addition to other special dates throughout the year. The club works closely with the City of Coronado and uses the police basement to store the trailer when not in use. Not only does this project promote patriotism in Coronado, but it also promotes the Rotary brand. Ivan and Tom gave us a behind-the-scenes info on how the flag poles are inserted into the ground and protocols in place to respect the flag. This picture is of a drawing by Connie Spitzer. Thanks for joining us at Chula Vista Sunrise Rotary! See more

Please consider helping out this family in our community who has suffered a great loss.
This week we will continue making donations to Generate Hope, a transition house in our community that supports victims of sex trafficking. Generate Hope has specifically asked for new running shoes or flip flops, ethnic hair care products, deodorant, high quality facial products, 5-6 blade razors, beach towels or twin bed mattress Thanks to all Rotarians who made a great start to our donation! This morning Chula Vista Sunrise Rotary welcomed Annie Rodriguez from Generate Hope, a special facility who provides services to victims of human sexual trafficking. Annie provided many disturbing facts and debunked common myths about trafficking. Generate Hope provides a sisterhood and family environment as they experience recovery and transition services and programs. CVSR will be adopting Generate Hope in November as our monthly service project. Stay tuned on how we plan to assist them in their good work!

September Service Project!! We are collecting $20-$25 gift cards to support the "Santa Shop" at the Chula Vista Community Collaborative! The gift cards will be given to teens in families in need. When gifts are donated to this toy drive, presents for teens are often neglected so gift cards are much appreciated! Suggestions include cards from Target, Walmart and Amazon! Club and community members can drop off their donations on Saturday, September 26 from 9-11 AM at the Chula Vista Elementary School District at 84 East "J" Street in CV.
In addition to our speaker Logan Mabe from Restoration 225, Chula Vista Sunrise Rotary also welcomed back guest Mike Govea, Associate Principal from Olympian High School. Members Beverly and Gina shared their recent acts of kindness in honor of our September birthdays while Sophia shared a volunteer opportunity in October at Olivewood Garden in National Cityt. President Jeff showed pictures from our August Service project supporting Los Altos Elementary School with school supplies for dance learning. We are opening doors to new opportunities!
