Dear CrossFit, To say that things are about to change would be underselling the current state of affairs. Since the beginning of the year, COVID-19 has hit our ...industry particularly hard. Challenging affiliates all over the globe with unforeseen hurdles that no one could have "prepared" for and risking the communities that so many call home... Fast forward a few months and the world (not just the US) is on the cusp of one of the largest equality and social justice movements of the modern era after the death of George Floyd. People are taking a stand for #blacklivesmatter. People are tired and upset. People are shouting about how they feel and the desire for change. But CrossFit HQ remained largely silent. They spoke only after a brutal email was put out that was sent from Greg Glassman. Then, less than 48 hours later or 48 hours ago, the CEO of CrossFit tweeted - "Floyd-19." You see...words are powerful, impactful, and meaningful. His words were crass, irrational, and inappropriate. The actions that followed by this community were swift. Rogue, Reebok, ROMWOD, and more have dropped or said they will drop their affiliations with CrossFit HQ if things don't change. Tia-Clair Toomey, Rich Froning, Julie Foucher-Urcuyo, Elisabeth Akinwale, and Chandler Smith have spoken out. Massive affiliate chains like NCFIT, Brick, and others have left. Dozens, if not hundreds of other affiliates have been spending their afternoons and mornings changing their social media accounts from "CrossFit XYZ" to "XYZ Fitness" as they drop the CrossFit name from their brand, many dropping their affiliation as well. But... It was NEVER about CrossFit. While CrossFit may have been branded on a sign, talked about on a page, or a place where people latched on to a founding idea - it was never about just "CrossFit." It was about the community. It was about the members at the local box. It was about sharing a common goal - health. It was about sharing a WOD with friends. It was about passionate people preaching about passionate things to people who wanted to listen... It was never truly about JUST CrossFit, and certainly wasn't about JUST one man - Greg Glassman. The words spoken by either of which do not reflect the voices of so many who make up this community. They don't define the local gym. They don't define your coaches. They don't define so many things. The community that CrossFit built is and will continue to move forward in new ways - ways that will take time, hard discussions, and self reflections to figure out. It will require change at the top and some at the bottom. But it will change... It will grow... It will become something new... Something better... Because the community that built CrossFit is more than one company, or one man, with one voice. It's a diverse, global community of people from every demographic striving to live a healthier life together - that's powerful. They have a voice - a loud one that right now is shouting from the roof tops at the top of their lungs that things need to change. That what is cannot be. That what was needs to go. So while I hurt for so many friends who right now are deciding what's next for their own communities, whether they should deaffiliate or wait, and so many others who have questions - I'm hopeful too. I'm hopeful that whatever comes out of the rubble is better than the building that stood before it. Hopeful that the changes to come will be ones of positivity, inclusion, and community. Because it was never about just CrossFit... But the community that encompassed it. A community that will rebuild it. People who will create a better tomorrow. With love - Sam (Please feel free to share)

One year since since our life was defined by before the fire and after the fire. One year since we had to literally the find inner strength to just keep moving. To not crumble. To fight for what we love. . . . One year since we found out life is short. Nothing is permanent but yet how even in tragedy you can be thankful. Thankful for the people who helped you in those first weeks when you didn’t know up from down. Thankful that your family and friends were safe. Thankful for... shelter. Thankful for support and kindness. . . . It has been one year since the fire and it has felt like five years. Everyday we stay positive and we just keep pushing forward. We are working hard to one day have our CMC back. Rebuilding is a long and timely process. Thank you to all the people who have helped us and reached out over the past year. We are so thankful. . . . We are strong. We are resilient. We are the future. We are Paradise Strong. . . . #campfire #paradisestrong #cmc2.0 See more
