Custom Dezign Graphics

My name is Melanie Kime, I am the owner of Custom Dezign Graphics in Crescent City. I have been on the fence regarding measure S. On one hand I can see how it can benefit our city, but as a small business owner I'm concerned it will drive more business to Brookings. We already have a lot of locals who shop in Brookings to save money on sales tax. Since the lock down, my business has been struggling. I've raised this business for 15 years, but now it feels like I'm watching it... die a slow death. We lost all of the sports team orders, many school related orders, a huge hit for us is that our main clientele is other small businesses in the community who are also struggling. I honestly don't know if we can ever fully recover. Today I read an article in the Wild Rivers Outpost that really upset me. According to the article a committee dubbed Citizens to Keep Crescent City Safe and Strong has raised and spent more than $20,000 on behalf of a proposed 1 percent sales tax increase for public safety, according to recent campaign finance reports. The committee advocating for Measure S purchased signs at Brookings-based In Motion Graphics. The fact they went to Brookings for their signs is a slap in the face. This committee didn’t even ask me for a quote. We have 3 sign companies in Crescent City who print election signs and outdoor vinyl banners: Custom Dezign Graphics, Merle Helstowski signs and Terry’s Wearable Art. I spoke with the owners of the other two sign companies and neither of them were asked for a quote for the signs. I find it extremely hypocritical that This committee is asking for an increase in sales tax while spending money on signs in Oregon. I’m asking all locals to please support local businesses. We need it now more than ever. See more

I reopened my shop yesterday, abiding by county health official rules, and I must say THANK YOU to this community who is supporting me and all of our local businesses. one thing I always say about Crescent City is "we support eachother" and that's why we have gotten through so many obstacles. We stick together!! I thank God for living in such a supportive and loving community
