Getting a good start on the raddle piece. Placing the nails in the holes (not set in place yet) for line up.. Not too bad if you ask me

PROJECT: RADDLE AND SHUTTLES Nothing like a nice, quiet evening scribing lines getting things ready to work on. This piece is going to be a "raddle", used in weaving to keep the numerous strands from tangling up. Each mark will have a metal tooth imbedded into the wood and act like a "detangling comb"

PROJECT: A-FRAME COOKING TABLE Drilled the holes for the top cross piece and figured out how long to make the table. It's going to be about 6 ft long and 3 feet deep. Going to put two "braziers" in the design. One approximately 2ft diameter for larger cooking jobs and the other to be about 1ft diameter for smaller, leaving the other 3 ft for prep and service space.... Both braziers will be set at center of the table and the tabletop itself will be built in modular sections for easy storage when not in use. Step by step!

PROJECT: CHARCUTERIE BOARD MARK II I rounded the edges of the board and stripped off all of the original blackened surface down to the bare wood as much as possible. Gave it a preliminary sanding and it has lots of potential of looking really good!

PROJECT: A-FRAME COOKING TABLE Just a nice, relaxing evening, doing a little basic algebra (thank you Pythagoras!) in figuring out where to drill holes for the A-frame so I will have a 3ft high table frame. I was pleasantly surprised how simple the measurements came out for simplicity!

PROJECT: "A-FRAME COOKING TABLE" Yay! Play time! Doing a little tinkering with tools to get my rough work for the joinery involved with this piece.... This project is going to be a fun project for me! Basically, it's a table set into an A-FRAME about 3 ft off the ground with a built in "burner" (charcoal or wood fire powered) for cooking on! Haven't quite decided if this is going to have 1 or 2 cooking burners yet, but we'll see what looks good with what I have Looking good so far!

PROJECT: CHARCUTERIE BOARD, MARK II Second try at this project. Fresh Cove owner and matron of the house would like to have "rounded corners and more polished" look. Just the challenge I need! Looking forward to trying out one of my favorite tools with this piece!

Okay! No more procrastinating! I got the wood for this second prototype for a charcuterie board, but I ALSO bought some wood to start building my new "Cooking Table"! A frame design with a table top about 3ft off the ground to keep the heat and fire safety issues well met.... Wood is here, gonna cut it!

I just got this picture from a previous customer, Monica Abrego-Hill of a Shou Sugi Ban bucket planter frame I built for her. I love the artistry of the flowers she planted! Looks like a peaceful garden here. Does my heart well when I see things like this

PROJECT: CHARCUTERIE BOARD Got some ideas with the "Peasant Plateware" Project (say that 10 times fast ) and decided to fire treat the sides and back of the board as well and it really made it look more "polished" and a little extra oiling didn't hurt either I think this prototype piece is ready for presentation!... If I get this assignment, the final work will be more polished and "perfect" but looking good for hand tools only!

Fun follow up on one of my projects! I got an order for a setting of 4 for my "Peasant Plate" series! Needless to say now, they are all done and ready!

Did a little bit of playing in my shop tonight as well! From the failed attempt of using a cedar plank to make a charcuterie board with a border around it, the board warped and became unusable. But from the general shape of it, I thought about what about simple plates and platters? So I thought of a simple "peasant plate" or "peasant platter" concept with this! Pieces of cedar that were sanded, given a Shou Sugi Ban treatment, then sanded smooth and finally treated with butcher block oil to make it food safe? So imagine going to a SCA event and instead of hanging around a campfire meal gathering with a mundane paper plate with one of these?

PROJECT: CHARCUTERIE BOARD This is my second attempt at building this project. Going something a little bit more simple with gluing pieces of pine wood together to make a flat board the size wished. After the glue dries, the board is going to be planed smooth and flat, then sanded down and later to be put to a blowtorch to make the grain pop! ... After that, few doses of oil and she will be ready! So Fresh Cove folks! What do you think?
