As we prepare to conclude 2020 - a year that has challenged us in so many ways - we want to pause and say thank you for your hard work, resilience and commitment to each other. These defining moments have revealed our true Cougar Spirit a powerful spirit of care, innovation and community. Through it all, together we have accomplished so many remarkable things. As we welcome in the new year at Cal State San Marcos, we know the future holds promise because of our incredible Cougar community. Together, we will build a brighter tomorrow. We wish you a healthy and happy holiday season full of Cougar Spirit.

Congratulations to assistant professor of kinesiology, Richard Armenta for winning the 2020 Kerri Mowen Excellence in Faculty Mentoring Award. He is honored for, among other accomplishments, his efforts advising a large and diverse group of students and the large range of disciplines these students come from, including epidemiology, public health and kinesiology.
Did you know that Poinsettias weren’t always associated with the holidays? The Ecke family made the poinsettia our traditional holiday flower by strategically sending free poinsettia plants to set decorators, who used them during the holidays on the sets of shows such as Late Night with Johnny Carson and the Dinah Shore show. With nationwide coverage of these shows, families began to seek the poinsettias for their own homes. The Ecke family is still based in Encinitas and are a valued supporter of CSUSM and the University Library’s Special Collections! For more information, check out the Paul Ecke Ranch, Inc. Business Records and Family Papers at https://archives.csusm.edu/ecke/.

If you're scrolling and feeling like it's getting dark, know the members of our community are here to walk beside you. Reach out via message if you need to get connected with resources and support on campus.... Take care everyone!
