Job and Internship Opportunities for CS and CD majors - NEST Flight is well underway and really picking up momentum. We know have companies committed to recruit interns and employees from our participants of the conference. Companies include, Amazon, Plantronics, Granite, California Giant Berries, Tanimura and Antle and others. We hope to get as many of your students into the conference as possible. ACM along with Design Studio have come together to put on a movie night for all to enjoy. Need help with technology? Digital Otter Center offers pro bono assistance to community! Computer science students will provide free assistance to members of the community every Friday 4-7PM from September 30 and Dec 2.... At the Digital Otter Center, Cal State Monterey Bay’s newest community outreach program, students will provide a variety of technology services on a drop-in basis to individuals, startups and non-profits. High school computer clubs and senior centers are also invited to take advantage of the service. Free services include: Tech classes basic computer use, Internet, productivity software, basic media and coding Tech support removal of viruses, installation of software, troubleshooting Tech tutors one-on-one teaching/tutoring of basic computer skills HELP with technology The Digital Otter Center will be held in the Business and Information Technology Building on Divarty Street, next to the Tanimura & Antle library, from 4 to 7 p.m. every Friday from from September 30 and Dec 2. Students will be on hand in the first floor of the building to greet visitors and direct them to the appropriate location for the service they need. Please note that while the service is free, visitors must purchase a parking permit from a machine on the lot. A programmer is needed to support the databases and website applications for The National Ocean Economics Program website (www.oceaneconomics.org) of the Center for the Blue Economy (CBE) at ... the Middlebury Institute of International Studies (MIIS) at Monterey. The CBE’s primary data website, serves ocean and coastal related economic data to its users from a relational database. In order to provide expansion into new data offerings and to update current data, a database programmer is required to assist the Data Manager in designing and building database tables and developing programs for querying the data from the website. This is a part time (19 hours/week) position for one year with possible extensions. Qualified applicants must have experience building database structures and writing programs to extract and format the data for website and other presentations. Work is to be performed at the CBE offices on the MIIS campus during normal office hours. Under the direction of the CBE Data Manager, the database programmer will: Locate relevant data sources for specific ocean and coastal related industries Query government agencies and non-government organizations in search of information Compile time series numeric data for website publication, analysis, and studies Work with research assistants to gather and assemble project data Write programs, scripts and procedure to load collected data into a database Manipulate and structure data into database tables Write programs to query databases and supply formatted output to web pages Comply with established protocols and documentation requirements Attend weekly meetings with staff The position requirements are: At least one year of relational database development experience, Microsoft SQL Server preferred An understanding of data normalization, indexes, and table joins A thorough working knowledge of SQL programming, Transact SQL preferred The ability to develop programs and scripts for manipulating data from source data feeds to database tables, and to extract data from database tables Experience writing programs with Microsoft C# and/or Visual Basic Experience processing data in spreadsheets, Excel preferred Good communication skills and be able to document data loads and procedures The ability to work independently Desired skills for this position: Web development Math skills Experience producing graphs and tables
