For today’s Tuesday Talk, we are discussing Male Breast Cancer . The third week of October is recognized as Male Breast Cancer Awareness Week. Although less than 1% of breast cancer cases develop in males, they have a higher mortality rate. This is due to being unaware of male breast cancer and getting treatments too late. We can change this. Anyone can get breast cancer, so let’s raise awareness and encourage check-ups when anything feels off. Early detection is key! #malebreastcancer #breastcancerawareness #earlydetection #csulb #csulbwgec For more information visit nationalbreastcancer.org

October 15th is recognized as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. Both miscarriage and stillbirth describe pregnancy loss, but they differ according to when the loss occurs. In the US, a miscarriage is defined as loss of a baby before the 20th week of pregnancy. A stillbirth is the loss of a baby at or after 20 weeks of pregnancy. According to the CDC, about 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage and 1 in 160 pregnancies end in stillbirth. We invite you to participate in The International Wave of Light by lighting a candle at 7pm local time to honor everyone affected by pregnancy and infant loss. #pregnancyloss #pregnancylossawareness #pregnancyandinfantlossawareness #waveoflight #csulb #csulbwgec
Happy Tuesday Talks, folks! Did you know?: October is recognized as a month to celebrate LGBTQ+ history and is called OUTober in reference to National Coming Out Day, which is October 11th. OUTober was recognized on local levels in 1994 before Pres. Clinton established June as Pride Month nationally in 1999. . . To celebrate OUTober, the WGEC recognizes a few of the many figures of LGBTQ+ history. ... 1. Audre Lorde was a feminist, lesbian, poet and civil rights activist. 2. Bayard Rustin was a Civil Rights Activist and the primary organizer of The March on Washington in 1963. 3. Sylvia Rivera was a Stonewall Veteran & Trans Activist. 4. James Baldwin was a Novelist, Poet and Activist. 5. Marsha P. Johnson was a Stonewall Veteran and Trans Rights Activist. 6. Florence Flo Kennedy was a Lawyer and Civil Rights Activist. Comment below and let us know who some of your Must Know LGBTQ+ icons in history are. . . #wgec #csulbwgec #outober #csulboma #csulb #csulbdsa
