Taste of the Arts is our annual evening of art that highlights the work of our Music, Theatre, and Art students by allowing the community to experience ‘small bites’ of their work. Although it was greatly missed this past fall due to the pandemic, this video was created by Mendy McMasters’ Auditioning for the Theatre class. Please enjoy two monologues from theatre majors Natalie Love and Charlotte Smith. We encourage the community to continue to support the arts on our campus, in our community and nationwide. Look for our next Taste of the Arts event, Fall 2021 and other Music and Theatre performances coming this spring semester!
CSUB Music is pleased to announce auditions for the 2021-2022 academic year! We invite prospective students to audition for a music program that features high-caliber instruction, a long tradition of supporting each student achieving their goals, and a growing number of successful graduates. Those who submit an audition by March 2 will also be considered for scholarships. School is right around the corner Runners and we wanted to take a moment to welcome our new students to the CSUB Department of Music & Theatre! Due to the global pandemic, many of our classes will be online for Fall 2020, and we are also working toward some on-campus instruction. Regardless of format, we remain committed to high-quality education and student health and safety, and we are excited to welcome first-time and continuing students for Fall Semester. We will inform students of important developments as planning proceeds.
In this time of deep sadness and outrage, and always, CSUB Music & Theatre stands against racial injustice and violence. We stand for inclusion, understanding, and social uplift. We affirm the message shared recently by the CSUB president’s cabinet: All who seek hope are welcome here. All who yearn to unlock their potential are welcome here. All who wish to share ideas and perspectives are welcome here. And to all who seek social justice: You are welcome here. You are wanted... here. You are needed here. (Full message here: https://news.csub.edu/striving-for-social-justice-together.) And we affirm the words of Civil Rights activist Ella Baker, sung by Bernice Johnson Reagon and Sweet Honey in the Rock: https://youtu.be/U6Uus--gFrc [youtu.be]. To continue the conversation, consider watching Anna Deveare Smith’s Notes from the Field. Find the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-k0OGWho9c&feature=youtu.be (The full movie is available to stream on HBO, or to rent on iTunes or Amazon.)
