To my friends, family and community members, it is with great enthusiasm and delight that I would like to announce my decision to run for Desert Community Colle...ge District Board of Trustees Area 2. The love and commitment I have for our communities has always guided me to help and serve our residents by providing educational opportunities in the Eastern Coachella Valley. I want to help in advancing the reach of our college to areas and individuals who have not realized their educational goals. Trustee Area 2 has many similarities to areas that I have organized for twenty plus years in providing an array of educational and community services. I humbly ask for your support in this election, so that my experience and passion can help serve all those residents within Trustee Area 2. I am very grateful for the support and inspiration from my friends, family, and most of all the community, as I announce my campaign and actively seek your vote and confidence to represent you. Together, we can help our community reach new educational heights. ¡Juntos, podemos ayudar a nuestra comunidad a alcanzar nuevas alturas educativas! #Bea4COD #AlcanzandoNuevasAlturas #RepresentandoyHermanandoNuestraCommunidad #Bea4TrusteeArea2

Dear Colleagues: I wanted to notify you of a malware event experienced by the College on August 23rd. Our Information Technology (IT) team took immediate action... to combat the threat and retained a third-party forensic team to help with the recovery efforts and to investigate the cause and scope of the incident. Our internal team and our third-party cybersecurity experts have been working around the clock to bring all systems back online as quickly and securely as possible. The cybersecurity experts have also assisted us with filing a report with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The restoration process requires extensive system and data testing. We will not risk resuming operations before testing the stability and reliability of the system. While we cannot provide an exact timeframe for the complete remediation of our College systems, we are working diligently to ensure systems and operations are restored as soon as possible. I know this is frustrating and could not have come at a worse time. We have done our best to provide work-arounds for faculty and staff for flex activities this week. As a reminder, to access the Vision Resource Center (VRC), visit https://visionresourcecenter.cccco.edu/login/ or log in with your network email and password to http://mycodus.sharepoint.com/. If you have any trouble accessing the VRC, please email Donna Greene [email protected]. Should you receive questions from students, please reassure them that they will not be dropped from classes due to nonpayment of fees and staff are continuing to serve our students. Students can access Counseling utilizing our cranium café, using the following link: https://collegeofthedesert.craniumcafe.com/login. Additionally, we will continue to use our RAVE emergency text alert system to provide updates and information as it becomes available. Staff who are not receiving these alerts should contact their supervisor. Our priority is to keep the Vision Resource Center and Canvas operational. The next steps will be to restore the email exchange and Colleague. We appreciate your patience as our third-party experts are investigating this incident. To date, there is no evidence that any personally identifiable information has been compromised. Once the investigation is complete and all facts are known, we will be providing an update to our College community. As transparency and open communication are important to us, the College will be providing a press release regarding the incident for immediate distribution. If you receive any questions from media, attorneys or the community please direct them to the public information office at 760.848.8230 so that we may provide them with appropriate responses to their questions. I cannot thank Sheri Willis and her entire team enough for everything they’ve done and continue to do to resolve the issue, while at the same time finding ways for us to continue to do our work. I appreciate your understanding and ask that you be patient as we continue to work through resolving this issue. I recognize this has been a difficult and confusing time, but we will get through this together. Thank you for your patience. Joel L. Kinnamon, Ed.D. Superintendent/President

State Superintendent of Tony Thurmond will host a virtual media check-in tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. on Facebook Live, to provide updates on plans to reopen schools, ...distance learning, and investments needed to bridge the digital divide. The Closing the Digital Divide Task Force continued their work Friday on behalf of California’s most vulnerable students and families who continue to experience barriers to internet access despite calls for providers to expand their services.
