"In a series of Facebook live talks, California Labor Secretary Julie Su explained the delay was because the California Employment Development Department, which manages the state's unemployment insurance fund, was unable to accept applications from independent or self-employed contractors under its current system. They have to build an entirely new system to manage their unemployment insurance claims. The EDD claimed the new PUA system will likely rival the size of the regular UI program it administers."

A San Rafael Small Business COVID-19 Disaster Relief Fund has been created to help small businesses struggling to maintain cash flow and financial solvency during these unprecedented times. The Relief Fund will allow qualified small businesses to apply for one-time grants in amounts up to $5,000 to help pay for immediate operational costs, including but not limited to rent, payroll, utilities and loan payments.
