Building America required hard work and sacrifice. We can honor that sacrifice by celebrating in a socially distant way this year, to keep ourselves strong and independent for the future. But if you do go out, please wear a mask and wash your hands!

What is Stanford thinking? Stanford ends paid leave for COVID-19, citing low numbers of employees testing positive and decline in COVID-19-positive patients in our facilities. In the same week, employees are notified that in the last week, the highest number of employees have tested positive since testing began, and our weekly town hall leaders discuss the rising numbers of COVID-19 cases in the community. ... We are seeing numbers of sick patients increasing, and the news is full of stories about the rise of infections. Meanwhile, CRONA is starting to hear from nurses who have been told by a manager that their absence due to reported COVID-19 symptoms is unexcused, and nurses may be subject to discipline under the Attendance policy. THE PANDEMIC IS NOT OVER. There is no cure, and no vaccine. Now is not the time to create a work environment that is hostile to nurses experiencing symptoms of COVID-19. Now is the time to do everything possible to keep healthcare workers safe, so we can keep our patients safe.

Dear CRONA Nurses, Today we commemorate Juneteenth, a day that marks the end of slavery in America, when slaves in Galveston, Texas finally received word that they were free. We know that the legacy of slavery did not end there; it has persisted through generations and impacts all of us in a multitude of ways. We now have an opportunity to use our influence as nurses to oppose racism and work to create a society free of discrimination. As nurses we are advocates for health, a...nd no population can truly be healthy when racism and other forms of discrimination persist. CRONA is advocating for self-reflection, education, and action. Expect to hear more on this issue in the future. As a union, we know that where there is unity there is strength, and with our voices together we can be a part of the drive for change that will ultimately bring better health to us all. See more

There's still a few more days to enter the photo contest to win a North Face backpack - thanks to everyone who entered already. We feel very nostalgic looking at a photo of nurses without masks!

Our nursing profession was founded on principles of proper sanitation and infection control practices, and gathering and analysis of data. We need to continue to do everything we can to advocate for ourselves and our patients. Our current safety and our future nursing profession depends on it.
