A Message from Patty Blum... Why be Grateful? Why be grateful during a global pandemic and in a year that has seen disaster after disaster- both environmental and man-made? Sometimes it’s hard to feel gratitude, yet gratitude can turn a disaster into an opportunity; it can turn a crisis into a transition; and it can be a story of resilience that is told year after year.... Gratitude helps us gain perspective on the most challenging days. It can even be a prayer thanking our higher power for simply helping us get through the day. Gratitude can also be a smile under a mask as someone greets you at the start of your shift and this has the power to change your day and their day for the better! For it is in thanking others that we recognize and honor their gifts with humility, compassion and love and allows for that moment to experience acceptance, respect and honor. Brene Brown, professor and author, reminds us that the practice of gratitude increases and amplifies our joy. When it is the toughest to muster up gratitude, is the moment we need gratitude the most. Often it is the simplest practice saying thank you with words, a smile or gesture. As we start this season of Thanksgiving amidst the turmoil and pandemic, may we practice gratitude with a humble spirit and love in our hearts.

Crestwood Bakersfield Campus In September, in honor of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, Crestwood Bakersfield wanted to thank our staff for their hard work and dedication to recovery by celebrating with cupcakes and goodies. Clients also received cupcakes and teal and purple bracelets with positive, motivating quotes such as, choose to keep going and it’s okay not to be okay. Clients shared what is giving them hope for the future and wrote positive affirmations on their walking path to help remain recovery focused!
