Creek Hollow Ranch Inc 20.10.2020

We are tentatively planning on opening up to haul in guests again on Friday May 29th. We will be closed again to haul ins on the days of June 6th and June 14th. Our beautiful 120x250 ft indoor arena will be open for use, however, all other facilities and amenities will remain closed to haul ins until further notice. All visitors to the ranch will be required to follow the precautions put in place to remain safe and compliant with San Diego County ordinances. I want to thank everyone who has been understanding and supportive of our need to reduce traffic here at the ranch. We are looking forward to moving ahead and taking steps to safely reopen.

This pony is awesome! She’ll take her next little rider to the top

UPDATE: Today Bella moved to her new home with the sweetest couple!! She will be their only furchild for now...and is already being lovingly spoiled. Thank y...ou to everyone who shared this post far and wide. She will actually be living near the coast and the dogs and I hope to see her from time to time. Be sure to see her new family photo below. As for me, I fell in love with her and my heart hurts...but in a good way for I know her new life will be fantastic!! From the northeast part of San Diego County. This sweet, scared girl is Bella (pronounced Bay-yah). She was my neighbor's dog. Unfortunately, she wasn't treated very well and one day after they came back from Mexico with a bullwhip, she dug under the fence and into my yard. When I open the front door, to let my dogs out, she ran in - up the stairs and hid under my desk for two days. I couldn't get her out of the house. I let the neighbors know where she was, that she was safe, and being fed. No interest. They had eight of her weaned puppies to deal with I guess. Since that day, she was given to me, and my intention is to find her the most amazing home ever! On Friday she went to have her surgery (spay), microchip, vaccinations, and deworming procedures. She is under 3 years old, is still super skinny regardless of how much I feed her at 70 pounds. Once she is able to gain proper weight, she will be around 80+ pounds at least. She's extremely smart, she corrects really easily, and she's just beautiful!! However, she is absolutely terrified of men!! We have been working on obedience, and she's getting very good, as she wants to please. She's not so great on the leash though. The leash and the bullwhip look similar to her and it creates extreme fear. So that is still a struggle for us. She has a a bit more to go in her learning, but she is so capable. Bella needs a home with a woman, and possibly a very gentle non-threatening man in a peaceful household. A peaceful home is a must, and to be part of the family is even as important. She is comfortable with other dogs of all sizes. She does very well with my cat, but my cat thinks she is one of the dogs and is not fearful in any way. Living in the country with other small animals such as chickens, etc, may be too much of a challenge for her. She loves affection, regular meals, treats, CHEESE, toys, sleeping, safety and exploring. My intention of posting her story is to find the perfect home for her...for someone to see her, open her heart to her and to take her home to be with the forever family she needs so desparately. Please know that I will be very careful in placing this special girl.

Medium Sized 13.1hh Pony. Super cute, amazingly sweet and gentle. 10/10 ground manners and super safe around little ones in the barn. Fancy mover with huge pote...ntial to go any direction. Talented enough to be an Acircuit hunter jumper pony. 11 years old. Canadian bred and branded. Her favorite kid for the last 3 years has sadly outgrown her and has moved up to a bigger horse. She needs a new partner to make her own. She has also been used for some Pony Club lessons and in a small riding program with some smaller kids, but prefers a soft knowledgeable seat and hand. Has shown at Copper Meadows in Intro division 3 day, and has schooled some Beginner novice cross country jumps. Does great out on cross country, but her fancy jump, look and style make her best suited in the hunter/jumper rings. Has great flying changes both ways. She is a forward Pony when asked. Not lazy, or dull, so not for a beginner. Has an amazing trot and would win the hacks! Has basic dressage training and has scored well in the beginner novice dressage tests. She loves going out on the trail and is good alone or in a group. Loves water and will go right through it no problem. She has amazing feet and has always been barefoot. Is ridden in a rubber mouth or plain snaffle. Super sounds and will pass a vet check with flying colors. Low, Low Five Figures. Lease options available to right situation for Mid-High 4 Figures. Currently located in Ramona, CA.

There’s nothing like hugging a horse!

THE FRONTAL LOBE OF THE HORSE’S BRAIN IS NEARLY NON-EXISTENT. How does this apply to schooling/training? Frontal lobes are involved in higher mental functions s...uch as reasoning. This means that horses cannot reason or plan to be naughty. They cannot be blamed for bad behavior or poor performance. They cannot recognize future consequences. Horses simply react to the situation. They learn through conditioning and memory. I see and hear so many riders anthropomorphize their horses instead of finding better training tools. Phrases such as, ‘he just likes to be difficult’ or ‘this pony is so naughty’ or ‘he understands or knows what I want, but won’t do it’, or ‘he moves his hindquarters at every halt just to irritate me’. Horses do not know what we want unless we explain it in a manner that they can understand immediately. A few months ago a rider told me how her horse ‘just does not want to co-operate’. It started with overt flight behavior and then became a subtle ‘snatchy’ movement of the nose. I asked her whether it could be due to discomfort. She answered, ‘no, she is just naughty’. It turned out that the horse was suffering from laminitis and was in severe discomfort! It made me want to cry. At the moment I am training a young horse from scratch. I also used phrases such as, ‘she has a short fuse’ and ‘she challenges me every step of the way’. Then I realized that everything I was doing on this horse was completely new to her. I realized how frightening that must be for an animal with no reasoning ability. She was actually trying hard to understand me, but when new instructions were a tad confusing, she showed me in no uncertain terms that she did not understand it. The horse’s reactions to learning new skills all depends on personality. This particular horse is extremely sensitive and an introvert. Utopia, my older horse, is less sensitive and a complete extrovert. She can deal with much more pressure than the youngster. The message for me is that I must train each horse with the kind of pressure which they can deal with. Each horse has a different tolerance for pressure. Us riders have to be adaptable to each horse’s ability to deal with pressure. Personally I find that most behavioral problems stem from confusion, discomfort and too much pressure.
