When troubles seem near, God is near, and He’s ready to help, so why run and hide. No fear, no pacing, no biting fingernails. When the earth spins out of control, we are fearless. Be still, be calm, see and understand, I am God; I am honored among all nations, I am honored over all the earth. You know the Eternal; the Commander of heavenly armies surrounds us and protects us. Genuine concern is just as dangerous, maybe more so because it’s grounded in something noble such as your concerns for your aging parents, a sick friend, a people group, a cause crying out for justice. You might feel terror when faced with a deadly threat, you may even feel anxious about getting on stage to speak. These are all natural fears and feelings, but you might also be controlled by a spirit of fear, worry, anxiety or depression. The term spirit of fear comes from 2 Timothy 1:7 which says, For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. So, if God has not given us a spirit of fear, what has God given us? The answer is God has given us His Spirit of Love. God’s love for you will never invoke fear. Let me repeat that. God’s love for you will never invoke fear. Perfect love expels fear, particularly the fear of punishment. The one who fears punishment has not been completed through love.
